I just called two financial services companies - put on hold for a while, of course. The first had me on McFerrin's Don't Worry Be Happy, and the second, joyously, on Spyro Gyra with Morning Dance. If you are in charge of the holding queue scene, what you putting on these days?

the Morning Dance was building and building to a crescendo, I was willing the operator to keep me holding til the end.

Actually, I want the operator to give me the choice, maybe a few options like Jazz Funk, Light Classical, EZ.

    Customer is king, right?

  • I was the the News Aide for the Foreign Desk of the Washington Post for over three years. One of my jobs was to call our correspondents all over the world. Every day I'd be calling hotels in Abidjan, Karachi, Quito and every place in between.
By far the best hold music anywhere was the Hotel Des Milles Collines in Kigali, Rwanda (THE Hotel Rwanda). I think it was a local station but you'd hear jazz, funk, afrobeat, benga etc. etc. Used to love calling that place.
I also remember a guest house in Peshawar having great hold music.
