Thought you might enjoy this:A good friend, music critic, professor, record collector, and serial prankster, pulled this stunt in Iowa City a few days ago on a whim.On December 11, 2007, the Des Moines Register reported:Iowa City, Ia. -- A University of Iowa professor dressed as a robot interrupted Bill Clinton at a campaign stop here late Monday, screaming for an apology before security escorted him from the building. The professor, Kembrew McLeod, stood on a chair and screamed several statements, including: ???Robots of the world want you to apologize.???McLeod, before security officers could reach him, tossed hundreds of cards into the audience of about 400 people in protest of statements the former president made in 1992 of Sister Souljah, a member of the musical group Public Enemy...

    I believe he cares about Sister Souljah.

    I just think he needs to build real robots to
    heckle Clinton around the country instead of
    rocking some Oct.30th-style half-ass costume.

    I WAS PROMISED ROBOTS

    You don't get it. This guy is spoofing Clinton for something he did in the early 90s against a black radical feminist -- he doesn't care about any apology, but wants to pit counter-culture in a public forum against one of America's more popular presidents. Not sure exactly why he chose Souljah, maybe that link above will explain more.

    The best part is Clinton's ultra vapid response, "There are more environmentally friendly ways of protesting than throwing graffitis around (cue applause)." That is some dumb robot shit. Boo environment hurters!

    * Pure gold:
    McLeod is an associate professor in the department of communication studies. He said he has tenure. He was not arrested.[/b]

    what happened with sister souljah?

    Female Rapper Show? Isn't she cohost of the new ego trip show? Maybe I am wrong...

  • what happened with sister souljah?

    Clinton took some of her lyrics out of context to make some kind of political point.

    edit: oh you meant now. Sorry.

    I saw it more as a future courier with night vision.
    Definitely weak sauce as robot costumes go.

    Ha - yeah, I saw that a video a few days ago. I know Kembrew through music-related/academic circles. I never knew he'd be the type to go all robot and heckle Clinton but it's a lot less stuffy than what most professors consider either political action or humor.

    The Sister Souljah controversy was actually very significant and was a low point in Clinton's early years (though not exactly on the level of Monica-gate). Basically, Clinton was pandering to more conservative elements in his base and he decided, in a very racially charged way, to scapegoat Sister Souljah for her politics...which really weren't any more volatile than a LOT of shit coming out of hip-hop in that era. So the fact that Clinton would pick on her just seemed like he was going for a soft target and watching one of the most powerful white men on the planet go after a C-rate female rapper just seemed incredibly and for people on the progressive left, it showed that Clinton was more than happy to play the race card in order to charm a few constituents.

    And yeah, I do think Clinton should apologize to her but I'm not about to go all Robbie about it personally.
