when I was looking for the address of the doughnut shop in the other thread, i came across some pictures of local neon signs...it dawned on me Memphis has some pretty cool neon around town...rep yours
You sure have us beat, all I can think of is strip clubs around here w/ neon.
Good thread, though. Not trying to jack this thread, but I would LOVE to see some dope local hand painted signs in your area(the old school way, which is SO MUCH better than all of this vinyl shit people use now and days). Nothing beats the old joints with nice ass hand lettering. If you are into that kind of thing(I am sure Mike 2600 can dig it, I remember LSD used to run flicks of local Minn. signs), Letterhead.com is a great resource. Its forum is full of knowledge and some real pros/legends of the game.
As a matter of fact, I think I am going to try and attend this 3 day workshop/class by Pierre Tardif that is going to be in my state in January. Dude is pretty dope.

There is a strip of old Motels in Springfield, Mo. that is just packed with old school neon signs.....and some towns along Route 66 in Oklahoma had some new signs made in that old school style....great stuff.
Good old Melbourne. We used to have a skeleton that danced here in Brisbane when i was a kid, but its a self storage building now. I often wonder if he's chilling in some guys pool room. I hope so.
I'm loving the midcentury snaps; they're dying off every day, replaced with the common ugly Helvetica squares seen everywhere now. I document our local Googie signage here:

I love this stuff and I buy every book I can find on old signs.....I just wish someone would do a book of these old Neon's that show the signs both during the day and lit up at night side by side.
i work 5 stores down from here. in that top photo from '88 it used to be a movie theatre (obviously) but now it's back to it's roots as more of a playhouse/venue for big acts.
Any Angelenos notice the defunct "Los Angeles" neon sign on Riverside just off Los Feliz? That shit is ridiculous......I want to buy it but I have a feeling it's not for sale as someone would have surely snagged that shit by now.

almost stayed there once, but there were weird stains on the ceiling and walls, seemed creepy, so we went next door to the San Jose...
Not surprised judging from the huge engorged cock of a neon sign they have.
whoa, more minneapolis people on here. hi!
one of my favorites from downtown:

RIP Sam's sad to see it go, but really hope Ryerson buys it, it'd be dope to see the sign stay and have classes in there
its funny because the bbq joint is long gone. The Greek restraunt that moved in kept the sign because they thought it looked cool.
This place is my bar.
Red Velvet Wallpaper with Gold Lemay like what.
(800th post - what do I win?)
this one was around the corner from where i grew up. the owner recently died, and the business moved uptown. they took the sign with them.
i live here now:
Damn, late night Family guy session like what?
