I am sitting here inputting linguistic data from Mayan languages that I don't understand, and the only thing making it tolerable is this Agustus Pablo "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown" LP that is melting my mind. Shocking since I live in Santa Cruz, but I really haven't gotten nearly into the world of Jamaican music as much as I want to. I've got that one Sister Nancy with "Bam Bam", the Johnny Osborne "Truth and Rights", and a few others here and there that I don't really listen to, but I am for the most part uneducated other than knowing names here and there, and seeing some great shows locally of artists who I have managed to forget the names of. The good stuff just doesn't show up in the real world too often for me.Plaese to reccomend, both records and mixtapes. I know Paycheck has crazy OG JA dub material (where did that dub mix go? I can't find it.), and Mr. Reggae Under Raps has got to have some heaters as well.

Tried to upload the album this came from but Divshare was asking me to log in, Sendspace and Yousendit crapped out on me. The era of free uploading is coming to an end people.

This is pretty much my favorite Dub LP (that I own), maybe coz it's not that dubby, together with the Zodiac Sounds and Java Java Java. I'm definitely more into the Rocksteady sounds than a lot of the later stuff that tends to put me in a bit of a coma.

This page has a bunch of dub mp3s. Crappy quality but you'll get the idea.

I always mention this one when people ask about dub - it's lovely

    A must:

For that weird European girls collaborating with British Jamaican reggae producers - this is one of the best imo:

easy dub all stars-dope cover album of dark side

I avoided Dub Side of the Moon when it first appeared as it seemed liked something hipster journos who normally rep Razorlight were damning it with faint praise as a form of dub that was acceptable simply because it was covering part of the holy pantheon of prog rock. When I finally heard it at a party, I was actually very impressed.

My fav 12" single, across genres, from 2006 (although it may have come out late 2005):

yabby u but King Tubby did the dub

  • some great modern dub:
    calamalka - shredder's dub
habitat sound system - meets prince zohar and the mystics

  • I'm diggin this one, who is it?

It's one version of a Yabby You tune the name of which I cannot remember. If you like that, I recommend you this essential compilation

It is not strictly dub, but if all dub tracks from this compilation were put on a single lp, it would definitely be my favourite dub album ever. Then again, I think it's better as it is as you're able to hear both the original vocal tune and a dub version back to back. King Tubby is in top form here reconstructing those sublime Yabby You riddims.

    some great modern dub:

Superior production, fresh ideas - I can't resist to praise this record again and again. IMO the best and most interesting dub record of the last years.

  • This is one my favourites too

Skatalites - Herb Dub Collie Dub

Truly heavy sh*t on this compilation of King Tubby's dubs of Glen Brown productions. Along with Yabby You, Glen Brown is one of my favourite producers.
