So lately I've had a falling out with music, but were now in couples counseling and trying to work it out.I spoke with a specialist yesterday (hi SOI) and he recommended I spend some time getting reacquainted with this albumsure enough it worked. Fantastic album. Side A is great from start to finish. Theres a couple cheesy covers and remakes on the 2nd side (Money & Knock on Wood) but overall this LP is a winner. What else is good from '76?

I haven't heard that album, but seriously 1976 seems to be the year of crappy releases. Thats why I'm trying to get a couple recommendations

the track "what did you do with my love" is really nice and he does a good cover version of "uphill peace of mind".

New Birth - Blind Baby. Two killer cuts, Grandaddy & Blind Man. Rest of it is pretty tepid.

from your description, this does not sound like it qualifies as a "great" LP.

    but here's one

    Ewwww.
lemme guess: leave the same garb, just replace ol' bill with a recently emerged-from-the-closet lesbian that records herself blowing conch shells and throwing owl pellets at windows and chopping the heads off of mushrooms with a spoon on her countertop while reciting edited emily dickinson poems, and you would drop hundreds on it.

it's a good album. it's grimy bill, not soft bill.

I expected the Chocolate Milk to get flack, but the Notations?

Do you dislike Chicago-style vocal group soul in general?

As for the Choc Milk, I just enjoy the sound of mid-70's Allen Toussaint productions like this.
I can see it not being people's thing, but I think even if you aren't into it, you can't really call it bad.

There's nothing I like more--but this record is tepid.

Wow - I'll have to dig it out and give it another listen.
I had fond memories of it, I'm curious to see how they hold up.
