  • that was great. They are so calm. As far as I could tell, they didn't have info sheets. They must have practiced that many times and memorizeded all the pitches, etc. It was so clean.

They are using OG Numark mixers. I remember when I was a kid, that shit was crazy dough. I use to stare at them in mags. I started with a shitty pyramid & gemini mixers.

  • That dude on the right has 2 records on top of each other! You can see it when he's taking one off at 3.55....cool!

  • Damn I'm old.

    I mostly ONLY mix.

I learned to cut on a Numark 1750 and when the crossfader burned out I had to hunt down the part (pre internet) and solder it into the motherboard myself. That damn mixer taught me how to solder.

To me that video above is the true essence of the DJ. I like the more tech/turntablism stuff too but those mix sets would really get the crowd going. Those sets were very well timed and planned to slowly climb in BPM's to a climax. They used to record those sets live and press them to vinyl.

That video was dope is all i'm saying.

  • Which DMC was that?

Ha! that was my 2nd mixer. My first one was a Numark too.

That's Toni Peret & Jos?? Mar??a Castells, AKA the Max Mix guys from Italy in the clip.
On-point mixing, crap selection. They put out a gang of mix CDs/LPs in the latter part of the 80s.
I could never get with that stuff. Too much on the cheesy "dance" side of the spectrum for my liking.

Taylor Dane, Yazz, Spagna, Sinitta, Mel & Kim, 49ers b/w "ARRRH YEAH! CHECK THIS OUT!". You know the drill.

  • Another Movie of those dudes.

Check out how he is cutting with the broom, and check what they use at the end to cut.

  • This reminds me of the story I heard about Detroit DJS growing up listening to Wizard mixes on the radio, thinking that they were done completely live, and developing techniques to recreate what were largely studio creations. Next level.

  • wow, smooth, amazing, incredibly seamless mixing of the shittiest records I have heard in a long while.

The first time I saw/heard Jeff Mills spin, he was doing that.

Hahaha, true. I like what they're doing, I just wish they were doing it with some better music.

Oh shit... Those were the dayz. I did that on my PPD also. On my first few mixers tho, I didn't give a shit and I just used the old radio shack contact spray.

It would always work well for awhile and then ur fader would be toast.
