just got back from a 13 day trip to Ghana. Unbelievably, I was able to cross most my Ghana wants off the list in one big sweep... don't ask me how this happened, I guess I got lucky. Let me know how you like the Lagos Disco Inferno mix, there's much more where that one came from...

god damn. That Ebo Taylor - My Love And Music is my shit. Was lucky to have a friend that let me borrow his copy a few years ago.

Frank, considering the quality of your past stories and the unbelievablility of your finds, I have no choice but to disrepect your wishes and ask, "How did this happen?"

That, and I can't view your photos.

  • Wow, Frank! I went to Ghana in 05 for three weeks and I cant say I had the same kinda luck even though I found some good stuff.

Isn't there a third Frimpong record?

You dont have doubles of Simigwa, Marijata, Ebo Taylor, Frimpong etc? Hehe...

    Congrats!

    Peace,

I've had loads of people contact me through my blog demanding a mp3.. I just dropped Raj a PM, hopefully, he can change it to a mp3...

But you can listen to it as the m3u (I don't even know what that is...) that's up there, right?

Yup, and it's great! I was just hoping for a format that I could download and bump in the ride...

It may just be me, but the M3u isn't working for me. They always have in the past. I can't get this one to work. Anyone else?

These are my favorite threads....record porn like no other.

But I have to be nosy and ask...

There is nothing I would enjoy more than travel the world and digging records...but I assume you need some big bucks to do this...no??

Is this some independently wealthy fun endeavors or some shoestring sleeping in a hut eating bugs shit??

I apologize if this is out of line, but damn, I WANNA GO TO AFRICA AND DIG!!!

Copy the link, paste into browser, replace "m3u" with "mp3" in the file name, and hit enter. (Not you Frank)

BTW, your disco records suck. Stick to the wailing out of tune funk that gets you gigs.

and send the disco to NYC. Thanks!

So if I just change the "m3u" to mp3 in the link I put on my blog, people could download it as mp3?

I'm so retarded with these things...

    Well that worked perfect. Thanks!

For MP3s such as this, I've often been referred to a quicktime page that only has the play bar with no option to download. It seems as though one might need a pro account to download. Does anyone know about this?

haha... I don't really want to dish out my financial situations in a public forum but I can tell you this much: I've never been wealthy by western standards. I moved out of my parents house at the age of 18. Never received any form of financial support. Did odd jobs until I discovered that people would pay me to play my favorite records at clubs. I've not been doing any other work besides spinning records (not knowing nor caring about how to mix) since 1995. in 2005, my wife was offered a job at the German embassy here in Guinea. We got set up in a nice bungalow and since I don't have a job, I get to live here rent free... they even gave me a diplomatic passport which is a huge help traveling around down here... before we left Berlin, I turned my fairly successful Funk party over to a friend of mine. His generosity for this act of kindness on my part allows me to do what I'm doing down here... I know, this sounds like a bunch of bullshit but that's how it is. I can sometimes hardly believe it myself.

Not at all.....and I appreciate your candor.....being in the right place at the right time is what the good life is all about.

when you have that situation, wait for the play bar to be 'complete' (so its all loaded), then go to the top: "File: save page as...", and youll save the "page", which is just an audio file. voila.

and Frank: congrats on the continued Adventures of Facemelt!

    The envy continues...great scores, Frank!

And it goes without saying that the disco mix was top notch as well.

Also, from my limited knowledge...Frimpong > Ebo, but my mailbox is open to receiving recorded evidence proving the contrary.

  • Frank, is that Dan Boadi an african press or imported US press?

Frank can we get some recent snapshots of Ghana, really curious about that world.

it's the US press, I don't think there was an African press of this.

I have to admitt that even though I had my camera with me at all times, I didn't take a single picture... kinda lame, I know but if you're constantly moving around in African cities, you get so used to your surroundings that you just forget all about taking pictures. Accra is much more developed than all other African cities (besides Abidjan) that I've seen so far. All roads are paved, there are traffic lights and they actually work and the police in fact regulates traffic and is not busy extorting bribes and beating on taxi drivers who refuse to pay...
it seemed to me like a fairly safe, relaxed and nice place but also less chaotic, insane and interesting than other places I've been to.

I'm going again in November and promise to take some pics then!

Ebo Taylor kinda wins in my book by the way but probably because he's more funky and dancefloor friendly than Frimpong. Really it's apples and oranges...

Well, I can't listen to this (only have internet @ work), but could download it, but I don't think this M3u conversion into MP3 is working for me.

Frank, did you have anything to do with those recent Afro/Island funk comps that came out? Or are your comp plans still in the pipeline?
