skip the plasmas, also bypass Samsung.

    I'd recommend the philips

if you're set on plasma - then definitely go LG. You can def get them under 1500 now. But if you're willing to spend 1500 - I'd see if you could get a 40" LCD. Trust me - got two plasmas in the house (one's the roommate's) and if you care about the picture - it's so worth having an LCD for TV not in hi def - which is most TV.

thanks for the info. was trying to decide between the philips and the panasonic. probably skip the plasma alltogether.

  • I've got Samsung DLP. Great product. What problems have you experienced, um.....Jewey?

What resolution are you going with 720p or 1080i? The new HDTVs are 1080p but cost more. I just bought a 42" Toshiba (42HL167) for under $1500 shipped.

bb - i have no idea what you just wrote to me. im just trying to buy a new tv thats larger than the ones i currently own. if its color and at least 40" ill check it out. im not picky nor do i do any gaming on tv/computer. i just watch tv and want a larger set.

is there something i should be asking the sales rep? mostly i just watch cable. dont really rent videos cause of on-demand. cant you just buy a tv like back in the day? whats the difference between plasma and hdtv or lcd or whatever the fuck....?!?!

jesus now im all paranoid about buying one!

I was referring to the vertical display resolution. From low to high it goes 720p, 1080i, 1080p. Here are a couple wiki links that might shed a little more light on the subject. I went with a 1080p because I figured as more HD-DVDs are released I'd prefer to get the best resolution. And if I'm already paying over $1200 I may as well spend the little extra to get what is currently the best. From the reviews I read the Toshiba I bought was the best bang for my buck for 1080p.
