Are there any Compliations for early West Coast Electro?Can some of y'all give me a timeline for that region's sound?I copped JJFad's Supersonic recently and enjoyed the post-Planet rock shit. I remember hearing it in college and felt like Dre & Yella was behind the times. But I just didnt know their history. Plus I was really into the New Electro that was poppin up in the late 90's/early00s and never grew up on that West Coast shit. I remember hearing the Arabian Prince album back in college and knew of his song on the NWA LP.Just give me some stories. When u went to parties in the in the early 80's was Electro considered separate from Hip Hop or just the same stuff? Who are the early pioneers there?

    Hella Roadium tapes serve as comps for West Coast electro stuff. Side 2 of the Dre's "86 In The Mix" is a prime example.

    Also, Egyptian Lover seems to making a push to acquaint people with his work, including reissues of most of his LPs and performances at spots like Labcabin. It's never been so easy to get familiar.

    yeah i caught a show he did in chicago, wack audience (aside from myself + friends natch) but amazing show, it was a party + a half. He's making new music that sounds exactly in the vein of his old stuff, like he never left

    i would be interested in hearing more of this stuff too for sure

    I love West Coast Electro.

    You can't go past the labels Techno Kut, Freakbeat, Kru Kut, JDC, Egyptian Empire and Techno Hop records...

    Unknown DJ, The X-Men, Egyptian Lover, World Class Wreckin' Crew, Ice-T (Reckless/Tibetan Jam)

    Professor X (the west coast one) is my shit!

    Anyone got the "Lover 2" record, which is like Egyptian Lover's son or something? Shits hillariously bad!

    I'm glad I kept my collection of Electro, When I get back to Australia, I'm gunna dig it all out...

    If you haven't listened, peep this;

    Also,

    I would have to suggest these compilations for Electro;

    Streetsounds Electro series... theres 22 volumes + 3 volumes of crucial electro + the best of West Coast Electro + NY vs LA Beats, UK Electro, a box set containing a bonus LP (Hip-Hop On Wax #3) and more...

    There's a CD compilation on Rhino, a box set called Street Beats (I think) that was dope...

    And you might wanna try find a CD called "THE BEST OF TECHNO HOP", I have that CD, it shouldn't be too hard to get, that one has some absolute BANGERS on it...
    peace.

    In the early 80's in New Orleans, electro was the primary hip-hop...with Planet Rock and When I Hear Music by far being the biggest jams...augmented with electro-styled r-n-b/soul/funk stuff like More Bounce to the Ounce and Freak-A-Zoid.

    Obviously NOLA maintained that interest in electro as the most electro-sounding portions of Triggaman became the foundation of bounce.

    West Coast-wise, Unknown DJ would be my first recommendation.

    Didn't Egyptian Lover put out stuff on Uncle Jamm's Army, too? I could swear that the Egypt, Egypt 12" came out on that label.

    Do yourself a favor and get the Pyramix.

    nm, that was Freak Beat.

    The Egyptian Lover was originally in UJA, along with Mr. Prinze and DJ Pooh. (there were others in the group, but Egypt and Pooh were the ones who gained the most fame)
