Hey,
I'm gonna start packin' my vinyls up tomorrow. This will not be fun, but it could be worse. I could be the one loading them on a moving van (did this twice before, not fun). Thank God for moving companies and employer-paid relocation funds!!!

I just moved the bulk of my collection last week to my new place.
It was not fun. After packing boxes that fitted about a crate and a half of records and lugging 30-odd boxes this size up and down stairs and to and form cars, my back, arms and legs were aching for a week!
The new pad is looking good now though as I got one of those big 185x185 (yeah in cm, its the metric system motherfuckaz) expedits and it sits nizely next to my DJ gear.
Yeah I reckon. I got all hip-hop in one section - 12's a-z and LPs a-z. All soul, funk and jazz stuff is in one system filed a-z. The only thing I have organised by labl is my relatively new salsoul 12" collection - it's just easier that way since I go to it for DJ-related purposes.
Alphabetical the whole way through. I used to have them non-alphabetically in genres. But now I don't even worry about the genre thing. CDs I still have in genres alphabetised & in label groups.

I forgot these. My "records I need to get rid of" crate is spilling over into a third crate at this point, but I'm unmotivated to eBay it all. I may just have to throw it all in a couple of lots just to purge.
Also, there's the stand-by crate of classics to pull out when I have company or just don't feel like trying to think of something to listen to.
my play out crates are a freakin mess and at home it's according to genre. what's on the floor is also a mess, mostly comprised of stuff I recently bought and/or played at home. I make a half-ass effort now and then to organize what's on the floor, so they're ready to put away but, you know, that happens not often enough.
I go through my reggae and soul records at least once a week to pull stuff to play out so even though it's not alphabetized or chronological or autobiographical or colour coded, I have a pretty good idea of what is where.

and these:
seems a bit unnecessary. What's that all about?
