ok...post two musicians/groups and have folks try and name their connection in six degrees or less... here is an example:T. Rex and The Chocolate Watchband1) Marc Bolan of T. Rex was married to Gloria Jones2) Gloria Jones recorded the original version of "Tainted Love"3) "Tainted Love" was written by Ed Cobb4) Ed Cobb originally wrote it for the Standells5) The Standells were in the movie "Riot on the Sunset Strip"6) The Chocolate Watchband were also in "Riot on the Sunset Strip"get your geek on...the above is just an example...just post two musicans/groups, no answers..and let the board try and guess. if no one guesses the connection, post the answer after a couple hours, or whenever you feel like it...

never heard a recording, but from what I have read, he wrote it originally for them(the standells were basically a vehicle for Ed's songs) they didnt care for it, so he had Gloria record it. It is really easy for me to hear it as a Standells song..the vamp, the arrangement..I believe the story.

I think you can delete a couple of those degrees. Ed Cobb also wrote for/produced the Watchband...

A friend of mine started this site:

    http://www.bandtoband.com/

it links bands together by the members that played in them (not relationships). There are some rules to the connections which are explained on the site. Its wild though because you can connect Slayer and the Grateful Dead.
    The site also takes submissions.

    1. Miles Davis' mid 60s group featured Tony Williams
    2. Tony Williams played in PiL
    3. Pil's vocalist was John Lydon a.k.a. "Rotten"
    4. Johnny Rotten was in the Sex Pistols

    or....

    1. Miles Davis played a festival with the "Raw Power" Stooges in '73
    2. Miles apperntly partied heavily with Ron Asheton of the Stooges
    3. The Sex Pistols covered the Stooges song "No Fun"

I would think cats like Earl Palmer & Pretty Purdie could be the lynchpins to making these, with all the genres they played across, countless sessions...

Yea, some of these can be too easy. When I checked that site and saw Material I was like DUH! Certian groups have had so many people in them and Bill Laswell has worked on so much stuff it's not even fun. Christ Material had a young Whitney Huston singing with them!!!

But I am enjoying the Soulstut version.

    Kurt - Krist Novoselic

Krist Novoselic was on "Political Rockers: Musicials with a Message" panel in October 2004 alongside KRS-One.

J-Lo sampled KRS-One's "South Bronx" for the remix to "Jenny From The Block

    Piece of cake.

  • Kurt Cobain - Jennifer Lopez

    Three moves...

Kurt was married to Courtney Love
Who was in 'Baquiat' with Christopher Walken
Who was in 'Antz' with Jennifer Lopez

  • I love this kind of stuff. Let's try

    DeBarge ---> Deicide

To make it infinitely harder a guy I kinda know through hardcore did a page on his site linking bands through members. The hard part is that the links had to be actual band members, not guests or session musos and they had to have played on a recording by the band that was released legitimately. It was an incredible site but seems to be down at the moment, you can still see the list of bands though.

Did Tony Williams play in PiL? I never knew that - that's almost as weird as the story about Elvin Jones once having played with Was Not Was.

    missbassie's was good too, but the six degrees I had were;

    1. Miles Davis played the trumpet solo on "Oh Patti" by Scritti Politti.
    2. Scritti Politti's first records were released by Rough Trade.
3: Rough Trade also released the one and only album by The Raincoats.
4: Raincoats' drummer Paloma "Palmolive" McLardy was a founder member of the Slits.
5: Slits' vocalist Ariana "Ari-Up" Forster is John Lydon's daughter-in-law.
6: John Lydon a.k.a. Johnny Rotten was the vocalist for the Sex Pistols.

Oh, I went to bed and forgot about this...well, I guess nobody knew/cared about the answer, but here it is anyway:

    Nat King Cole's daughter is
Natalie Cole who did and album of duets with
Peabo Bryson who did a Disney duet with
Celine Dion who did a duet with
    R. Kelly who did an album/tour and got pepper sprayed by
    Jay Z
