so i'm trying to lock down this lounge gig and the owner wants 'world' music inspired house/lounge. so the idea is to go with dubby & latin house. only thing, neither genre are really my forte. anyone out there familiar with some good artists/comps/labels i should be checking for?thanks in advance!

And throw some Amy Winehouse in there, et voila: Balearic.
PS: How can you live with yourself?
lol not sure what you mean by that.. guessing it's sarcasm.
anyhow, i actually enjoy listening to dub & latin house but have next to no knowledge about the genre.
And for dubby house that doesn't suck, umm, you ever heard of the Digital Mystikz?
Shackleton could kinda fit both dubby house and latin vibes.
Basic Channel, Maurizio, Pole, Vainqueur --> All Dub Techno.
Or the first Luomo album maybe?
Sorry, not entirely sure what you're looking for.
bastard boots Vol.1 and 2 (bastard jazz records)
anything on candela recordings is top notch
also anything by nickodemus is proper.
all of which can be found at the lab.
ez.
it's all good. thanks for the input (whaddup gusto??!) basically i'm sorta figuring that out as i go..
as far as the latin side, the roy ayers suggestion was kinda on point. more chilled out stuff, heavy on the percussion and rhodes.. instros or vocal tracks would work.
as for the dubby side, guess i'm looking for stuff that's less house and more like 4 on the floor dub, heavy basslines, and percussion. i've heard a tosca 'annanas' remix that was dope..
keep em coming! any ideas are appreciated.
You need the Mystikz in your life then.
Check out their tune Anti War Dub.
Heavy 4/4 dub feel to it.
Look for anything by the man Mala.
If you're NYC based you can probably pick most of this stuff up in Kims.
yup. +MAW.
others to check:
Da Lata
Troubleman
Gerardo Frisina
Truby Trio
Jazzanova
Bugz In The Attic
Proyecto Uno - "El Tiburon" slays all
2 in a Room - "El Traigo" only for serious sweatbox affairs
El General w/ C+C Music Factory = all time greatest latin house, I would be willing to bet that no dj could manage to spin this song without people in the crowd dancing. Boricuas are everywhere.
truuuuu.
ps. don't sleep on captain planets 'gumbo funk' joint on Bastard Jazz. I still rock that isht.
FIRE!

Chan
Ian Pooley - Coracao Tambo (needs rmx)
negrocan is a good recommendation. Search out aquela esquina (grant nelson rmx) and Mare Baixa (Jazztronik Remix).
co-sign on jazzanova. there is some similar stuff on sonar kollektiv.
Quantic, Diesler and others on tru thoughts
maybe even a couple of GAMM/Raw Fusion tracks (red astaire, beat fanatic)
G-Stone (peace orchestra / tosca) - more dubby than housy, but still
Pulver records, Fluid Ounce...
then get everything on vega records
lost of brazilian house mixes by kenny dope too
both guys together = maw, and yes they have tons of stuff
osunlade
joe claussell
antonio ocasia is alright
as far as dubby stuff = all things rhythm and sound
dubby with more of a disco edge = idjut boys, they have done some more afro flavored stuff as well
tons of things on noid as far as dubby afro disco, some old stuff on big bear too
then there are plenty of records here and there that you would probably only have if you were dedicated to these genres, so do your homework and start digging/listening to all house music and find your own less obvious stuff by inconsistent producers that may have put out a gem here or there
damn son! you're killing me over here!
thanks for the suggestions everyone, there's plenty to keep me busy for the rest of the week... but feel free to keep 'em coming!!
and cosine to red astaire/freddie cruger, been feeling his stuff in a major way lately.
