I just got robbed at knifepoint 30 minutes ago.Pretty scary, in the middle of a rainy street with nothing but luck seperating myself from watching my guts floating down the drain.I'm fine, about 200 dollars worth of Francs CFA are gone but I'm unharmed.I guess that's what you're asking for if you're trying to be too down and take scooter taxis through non-tourist territory late at night.I feel just so lucky to be unharmed...time for a couple of hard drinks at the hotel bar....shiiit!Final results from my current digging tour through Benin will follow within the next few days.

    i knew some guy that got robbed at knifepoint then slashed on the face. and this was in beverly hills of all places! probably not what you wanted to hear but just shows it can happen just about any where.

    This was mostly my own fault. It's just not a good idea to take motor scooter taxis through sketchy parts of any city late at night. To those guys it must have looked like Santa Claus is coming to town.
    I got mugged before but it was this crude looking big ass knife that really scared the shit out of me.
    Looked homemade with a ragged blade and tape wrapped around the handle.

    I really hope you are documenting everything in a journal.. You should be writing a book about your experiences. MAybe you already are..

    agreed on 1) be careful, and 2) write a book. those stories of pulling maggots out of the dogs, or creeping over the boarder with fighting behind you are crazy...and, a great testament to the lengths people will go for their passions.
