i like animal collective. i dig a decent amount of indie releases each year, but i'm usually not checking for things, they just happen upon me. i wasn't too hype on this album, hadn't heard anything about it, just rolled one and queued it up since it was new.man.this is no doubt already cemented in my top whatever list forever. perpetually beautiful and positive. my first inclination was to shelve it until summer, because it is just that type of music that i wanted to enjoy it fully with the windows down, but i cannot stop playing it. highly recommended. hope some of you check for it and appreciate as much as i have.for those of you who want an idea of what it sounds like, "brian wilson" is pressing hard on the tip of my tongue, but i will not and can not. it's not really fair for either party.[ayo] EDIT: and if it makes any of you more excited about checking it out, there is a straight-up joe bataan vocal riff in one of the tracks. that vibe, really.

Love it.. indie record of the year and it's only what March?
i can't tell if this is a cosign or a remark on my supposed naivety.
either way, yes.
yeah its its only march, but its on my top whatever for whenever too.
don't make me go through the trouble of coming up with an alias to offer the obligatory counter-post.
I found a mp3 off this record and I didn't like it (reminded me of what I didn't like about 'indie rock' 10+ years ago)
But folks whose opinion I respect like it so I'm reserving judgement until I hear the album
maybe
I ride hard for Panda Bear in 07.
I remember hearing that one Jane track that has the same misty feel for the first time, and instantly wanting more.
Snap. Do you have a link to this, by any chance?
secondeded!
I've been totally bored with "indie" lately. Shins, Arcade fire, Decemberists, Death Cabzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz - boring!
Remember when Indie was kinda weird and eccentric? I guess that might be Animal Collective (who I have to admit i haven't really heard much of) - so i'm gonna check this out.
I need some "new" music in my life for sure.
yes this album is really special.
if you're curious and patient, i think you can get a lot out of recent releases that include the canadian, daniel bejar. try destroyer's rubies[/b] - basically his solo project - or his more recent work with the frontmen from frog eyes and wolf parade, swan lake[/b], though maybe not so much his stuff w/ the new pornographers. i like animal collective all right, but i find daniel bejar's stuff to be endlessly impressive. i've also heard lots of good things about the new grizzly bear, too.
1. Comfy in Nautica. a chant mantra of lost smiley smile vocal-reels played full volume in an airline hanger. really fucking good, i remember hearing this on a 7" last year
2. Take Pills. more beach boys with a sampler and field recordings shit, pretty fucking apt title. this is dope
3. Bros. the point you realize that dude just really likes the beach boys and then say whatever, that is cool with me. this gets a pass even in light of the really horrid 1992 video art class style music video by the guy from excepter
4. I'm Not. two tramadols and a bong hit cuddle jam 2007. my house-mate said this sounded "like enya" and i can't say i totally disagree with him. this song also came out before, i think (?)
5. Good Girl/Carrots. obnoxious rave tablas and faux-reggae part that somehow works. undoubtedly the most questionable song on the album.
6. Search for Delicious. ummm i see you've found the tape echo setting on the sp-303. okay i'll pass on this one
7. Ponytail. guitar!!?!? the first time i listened to the album when it was over i just listened to this song four times in a row afterwards. an actual, you know, "song" and probably the best track
conclusion: this record sounds like the beach boys and is good
absolutely amazing. thank you SoulStrut, as i would have likely missed this for a few more months.
much appreciated.
I think it officially comes out March 20th on CD. But I want this on LP. Any word on whether it will be available on vinyl? rape_donkeys, I'm hoping you'll be able to answer this one.
Your right Destroyer's rubies was pretty amazing - but I LOVE THE WOLF PARADE! THAT'S MY FAVORITE INDIE RECORD OF THE PAST COUPLE YEARS!
I just listened to "Person Pitch"- and it was cool- but it was still too precious for me. I dunno- I'm in the mood for "rocking" jams I guess.
Anyone hear the new Cheeseburger record?
