    Hey,

"Love"-J Dilla featuring Pharoah Monche. I love that beat, but it makes me sad to realize we'll never know how far Dilla would have evolved his new sound.

    Peace,

    Big Stacks from Kakalak

Big Stacks, I like to think of it as James cracking the door open to a new sound (at a time when creativity in contemporary hip-hop was waning?). It's up to _________ to step thru and build from there.

    So beautiful.

  • Just now:

"The Deacon's Walk" by Billy Hope & the Badmen on Savoy (single). Midtempo barwalkin' sax-led R&B instrumental that I can't get enough of.

this sounds really awesome. i mean, i dont know what it is, but the description is pretty awesome. i love r&b sax.

Yeah, I should note that this is from 1958 and has downhome gospel chord changes and that finger-snapping stroll beat common to a lot of records of the time (like Chuck Willis' "C.C. Rider"). I actually bought this a month ago but just now, in the last half-hour, got around to playing it...two weeks from today it's probably gonna be in super-high rotation 'round here. Can't hate on this record...

Nope, don't recognize it, although I turned it
off after a couple of minutes. Just one of those
songs that doesn't need to be covered, I guess -
the OG versions are too good to mess with.

  • i listened to dilla's chop of "it's a mans mans mans world" about 20 times today. I can't get over how simple yet amazing it is. i can't figure out why i like it so much.
