I thought that sounded familiar, Heavy Duty Dub? Never heard the 45 version and didn't realize that was a cover. blows the original Idris version away, thanks for the clip
US soul/R&B covers are basically the genesis of reggae itself, so naturally it remains part of the art form. Snowball rolling, ya know?

Most of the covers posted here are linked from other sites... Apart from Mr K. in Canadia, who's responsible for about 30% of the graphical output on this site. Which I'm not knocking at all.... but a bit of insert A into B porn might not harm the fella. Maybe even the other stuff as well. yeeeuch.

Jazz/bop was def an influence, most notably on influential musicians Lennie HIbbert and Jackie Mittoo (ans Cedric Brooks) who would often play Jazz only nights in the resort clubs (as did Tommy McC, Ranglin, wtc)....but, ska (JA's first notable differentiated music form)is a direct result of JA musicians attemting to emulate US soul/R&B. LAtin/Cuba also had a big hand (thouigh smaller than US IMO) in JA in addition to other Caribbean cultures as anyone who collects calypso would attest (many influential genesis era muscians were of Cuban descent - Roland Alphonso and Lord Tanomo come immediately to mind).

Yeah Heavy Duty dub has been a favorite of mine for about 7 years now. Those Mudie dub LPs are dope. It's the first time I've heard this as well, I didn't realize that the original was a cover of "Lorans Dance". Thank you!
