dude, you were in town??! was it at the note this year?
what's up with dave's "aren't i precious" expression?
so cuddly right now
PRE-EMPTIVE AY YO ALERT!
I gotta see what "Terry_Clubbup" looks like.
I think that dude in the green/orange striped tie is "The Facialist", or whatever it was that Terry Clubbup was trying to explain to us last week.
He Bangs!
"no dollarbin commons plaese"
Though as you know, it's not so much that you post so little here but that you post so much on Funk45.
Forgot to shout out to lotusland who showed up fashionably late. At least we got A*dy in a pic.
i go there kind of late, and broke rather early, the only set i saw was that dude with the blond hair and his bizzo. quality mod dance party stuff, could've played it a little less safe though.... for some reason my lasting impression of the evening was the german version of sabbaths's "paranoid". that just seemed to work very well that evening.
let me know if your coming up again. you should really check out sheer magic at danny's. worth a trip i'd say. too bad danny's is scheduled a week before our monthly spin...which you are more than welcome to play at if you are going to be up here for any reason near the 2nd sat of any month.
cheers,
...but nice to meet Marco and 45.
prepare to get further acclamated next week or so.
Oh man forgot to shoutout we_eat_trains for being one of the friendliest & most generous dudes in Chi-Town. If you thought his soulstrut mix was heavy, you ain't seen his 45 sale box... or his bottled water collection.
For my next installment I'll list the records I played at the Saturday swap at Delilah's, which was quite possibly the best record show I've ever been to... with records being the least of my interests compared to chatting and drinking with all the girls & guys in attendance. I deliberately didn't bring a lot of soul records to spin as I thought that few of the DJs would be playing foreign gogo sounds... but boy was I wrong. There was TONS of foreign stuff played all weekend (Lyla of SmashedBlocked NYC had a particularly facemelting selection), and the soul quotient was quite low compared to similar events I've been to. Not that I'm complaining; there was a lot of garage, freakbeat, popsike, etc. spun by the DJs repping L.A., Chicago & NYC, and I hadn't heard a lot of it before, so it was cool to hear some totally new stuff to my ears.
Anyway, here's my swapmeet set, not in order:

I know we have a few other ModChicago DJs up on the Strut - post your sets too, guys. Yes, I'm looking at you, Agent45 and SexyBNyce...
And Soulmarcosa, it was nice meeting you too!
Thanks for the sharing Marco/Atell
Full disclosure: I was at the Friday function, as well as the Mod Chicago record convention, but wasn't there for the dance party on Saturday night (from whence those photos originate). I was just plain tired...LOVED Agent45's set on Friday night, though.
I had taken so much to the head by the time we got up there to DJ that I played maybe 4-5 cuts and let chronic get busy while I had a dancefloor spiritual expierience. seriously-my voice is horse from speaking in tounges. I left that night looking like I took a shower with my clothes on. The show friday was fun-I think the Age went over well and the loons from SD were cool. The DJs that night were the best [and prettiest]. your boy Agent 45 played some crazy awesome R&B [time]! All in all there was waaaay too much white music. Not that I dont like some freakbeat and dancefloor psych, but damn-enough already. I made some good money at the swap. I woke up saturday with no loot and I left delilahs with $150 and didnt part with anything I was too close to. It was real cool to kick it with marco and brian and all the non strutters in from out of town.
This is the most awesome thing. Its all about andy's expression.
YES
For real. Dude over the course of those three days I've never seen so many hot girls rocking a party in my life. And their records?
Layla, Jodie, Anya, and the Soul Sisters were HOLDING IT DOWN with some of the best sets of the weekend with ultra-raers that were supergood. Soulstrut doesn't even know.
Humble thanks Pickwick, and it was great to see you again after what - 2 years??? Damn. B-Nyce - did we just catch you wearing the same shirt on Thursday AND Saturday nights?
My DJ set went a little like this:
Tom Jones - The Lonely One (Decca)
E. Rodney Jones - R&B Time (Tuff)
Danny White - Miss Fine Miss Fine (Frisco)
Freddie & Henchi - Biscuits and Buttermilk (MoSoul)
Loretta Williams - Baby Cakes (Jotis)
The Jelly Beans - You Don't Mean Me No Good (Eskee) - request
Charles Sheffield - It's Your Voodoo Working (Excello)
Wilson Pickett - Let Me Be Your Boy (Verve)
The Light Nites - One Two, Boogaloo (Dunwich) - request
John Harris & the Soul Sayers - Hangin' In (Kerston)
Darrow Fletcher - My Young Misery (Groovy) - request
Buddy Lamp - My Tears (Double-L)
Big Lucky - Stop Arguing Over Me (M.O.C.)
Rex Garvin - I Gotta Go Now (Like)
Trade Martin - Work Song (RCA Victor) RIP, OBJ
Willie Hobbs - Gloria (Charay)
Ann Sexton - I Still Love You (Seventy 7)
The Nite People - Summertime Blues (Fontana)
Salena Jones - I've Got the Blues (Parrot)
Robert Parker - Barefootin' Boogaloo (Nola)
Jimmy Bailey - Keep On Running (Columbia)
I won't complain about too much "white" music being played at the weekender. Maybe it made my set sound that much better and shocked a few people when I played "You're Holding Me Down" by The Buzz on Saturday at the swap meet. At least four times I had to say "Sorry, no. That one is NOT for sale."
(hopefully) the dumbest picture of me from the weekend - and if one of you took a dumber one - do us all a favor and keep it to yourself.
it was too hot for the suit I had laid out and worn to the wedding I went to right before I showed at the Note. I had already sweat through the shirt so I thought it was best to change. went home and was trying to argue with the lady, get dressed and get my records together all at once. Dudie-if you were in Chi today you would catch me in the same camo cut offs I wore yesterday. It's hot like africa here right now.
Marco, it was great to see you again. I pulled out a couple 45's for you but just couldn't make it back on Sat. PM me your address and I'll send 'em out. Glad you hooked up with Tony, I assume you also met Shaky Sean. What happened with that block party?
Nice to meet Dave, ask Dante for a listen to that Cleo track.
All Chicago strutters need to make it up here for one of our 2nd Sat. spins. I gaurantee a night you'll never remember.
