that video came from a 80's documentary thats soon to be released on DVD. I think it's called Deep Roots or something like that. You can watch alot of them on youtube. My favorite is watching Lee Perry going crazy on the beach. Chanting and running around.

    Maybe a Soundcraft Board, etc??

"[i]In 1973 Perry opened his famed Black Ark studios in Washington Gardens, a suburb of Kingston. It was there that Perry???s abilities as a groundbreaking producer became fully formed. Using only a TEAC 4-track recorder (the heads of which he would clean with his t-shirt), a Soundcraft mixing board and an Echoplex tape delay, Perry established himself as reggae???s premier record producer through innovation, alchemy and a mysterious ability to take even the most moribund song and performances and create magic. his board was a soundcraft, but that little box he was pushing switches on and off... on the side... idunno, maybe it was a send thing to other fx units. it didnt look like an echoplex.

that man mustve had so much fun.

No, Soundcraft is a mixing board, the device Scratch is using in this photo:

is a prototype of the Mutron Bi-Phase. Looks like this:

Not to be confused with the Roland Space Echo, which is this:

    or this

bambouche, is that a pedal, or is it strictly studio gear? cause i swear ive seen that in pedal form.

Well, the production model of the Bi-Phase is a pedal. The vintage ones (I'm guessing early '70s? I'd have to get my Lee Perry texts out to check) may have been outboard. But, Perry had a prototype. There's probably a few kicking around. I assume you'd have to go against some nerd collector to get it, though. Stick with a $300 moogerfooger.
