Ayatollah keeps telling me how "Dune" is the best movie in the world. So I finally watched it, and I have to agree, its clearly the best film ever made. You guys got any recommendations for other 80's Sci Fi / Fantasy etc in this vein?
planet of the apes 1-8 - conquest for the... imo takes that shit.
let's face it, Heston is the man for 70's/80's sci fi.
runner ups:
night of the comet
dawn of the dead
worst sci fi look ever: zardoz. don't even fucking think about going there unless you are watching this WITH weird al yankovic AND a joint the size of a baby's arm.
My old roommate Julia named her first son after this movie
Not to be a nitpick, but a lot of the movies mentioned here are from the 70s, not the 80s (THX, Silent Running, Logan's Run, Omega Man, etc.). And if you're going to bring up stuff like Labyrinth (Dune-esque ), you might as well go all the way:
Reach the stars, fly a fantasyyyyy-yyyyyy-yyyyyy-yyyy

Blade Runner sons Dune. But the Dune Book series is that extra.
That would be mid seventies. On a side note, Agutter used to make me feel funny when they used to show that film on TV when I was a kid.
As for eighties it was mainly on the tip obviously with:

THX 1138
Aliens
Brazil
Altered States
Tron
Akira
Silent Running
The Quiet Earth
Tetsuo (the iron man)

Without googling this, is that Rick James, that bird out of Buck Rogers, and Brian Blessed on the poster?
