Found this on another forum...apparently it only works for folks using a broadband connection.I'm downloading at ridiculous speeds now. Give it a try...Speed Up Firefox:[/b]1.Type ???about:config??? into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequestsNormally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.2. Alter the entries as follows:Set ???network.http.pipelining??? to ???true???Set ???network.http.proxy.pipelining??? to ???true???Set ???network.http.pipelining.maxrequests??? to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it ???nglayout.initialpaint.delay??? and set its value to ???0???. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

I'm not exactly sure how much faster pages are loading, because that was always pretty straight for me, but downloading big files is off the hook!

Where are you downloading files from? I just tried that trick out, and while web pages seem slightly faster, I am not getting any speed increase when downloading from rapidshare. Is that because rapidshare throttles their downloads?

Yo I don't know if I did it right, but I don't see a craaaaaaaazy difference. Maybe it's cause I'm moving at the speed of thought already

For real tho - I'm about to son my son in Star Wars Legos and when I get back this shit better be twice as fast or I'm voting to impeach Drew on the grounds of emotional distress and conspiring with Mylantacy to introduce "SIK" and "RAD" as automatic word replacements.

And while I'm here let me RSVP for NYE.

i'm there, holmes! i'm bringing you up the ultra-rare gobstopper mistyped label with mini reese's pieces inside that are actually m&m almonds, but the almonds were accidently replaced with poprocks that sat in the same vat as the jolly rancher flavor!!

i gotta work on my dance steps and so on.

    snakeskin clarks like wuggawhut?

  • If you guys don't feel like screwing with the about:config, you can install the fasterfox extension. It's a frontend to the speed-related settings you'll find in about:config. The fasterfox FAQ gives you an overview of how this all works.

  • yeah, this is kickass. And for anyone that's interested, I also found a way to get safari to fly off the handle as well:

I use Safari and haven't switched over to Firefox yet... I'm thinking, should this be where I make the switch? Or, should I install that quick thing in my Safari?

I was ride or die Safari, then I gave Firefox a try and a few days later I was like Safari who?

It imported my toolbar bookmarks with mad ease and everything.

Seriously, it's "the people's" web browser.

Firefox finally catching up to Opera aye? That's nice, but I'm still biased and comfortable.

    oops!

go into your home folder, then library, then preferences. You'll see the list of plists and look for com.apple.Safari.plist

make sure you have omnioutliner or your developer tools to open it with cause it will look like a bunch of garbage in text editor.

and yeah, I'm still a diehard safari guy, but I use both it and firefox so both of these for me were

  • so hold up, is this only for Mac's, or does this trick work on Pc's too?

In comparison to Firefox, Safari is ass.
