Everything was nice 'n' cheap, except for the Bruce Haack, which
was definitely not cheap but a fair price for a spotless true OG.
I was pretty stoked to come up on that.
"Rebellion" record top right is kinda cool, Jack Hammer (who had
some R&B/Twist hits) reading and singing "Beat Generation poetry"
over a jazz backing.
Random stuff from the past week & a half or so:
Ferre Amour Anarchie has French jazz/rock band ZOO playing on two tracks.
Later Blues Project LP has a sick break that's gotta be pretty unknown and
a few cool, kinda burned-out tracks. Steamhammer has some nice mellow
tracks, flute & conga with good, bluesish guitar leads and decent vocals.
Some nice EZ-Listening bin gold is Trini Lopez covering
"Sunshine of Your Love" with fuzzed out guitars and breezy
vocals. Couple cool Donovan covers on there too.
What's up with the last track on the Edwin Starr, "Party?"
Yeah, it's on some "PAAAAARRTY!" steez in the background, but
Edwin goes on a crazed coked-up rant to his woman, getting
all worked up so that the last thing you hear on the album
is him screaming "WOMAN IF I SEE YOU WITH ANOTHER MAN ON
THIS DANCE FLOOR SO HELP ME I WILL KNOCK YOU OUT[/b]!!"
Best of the 45's:
if you dont mind me asking how much did you cop the Bruce Haack for? i know of someone with a copy theyve been holding for years and hes got it at $90
things from him and offered a price for the lot
that brought the Bruce Haack down to around $60.
i edited my post. i meant $90. i just spoke to him and the copy is VG+ supposedly. i remember listening to it and it wasnt very ear catching...but maybe it was just me? childrens record right?
with some crazed electronics and rhythm tracks
that are mind-blowing as hell for 1968. Fun stuff.
I'll admit that it's potential trade value crossed
my mind as well.
Chuck Trois is dopedopedope.
It's funny, because I'm on their mailing list and was getting
annoyed with how many reminders they kept sending me. They have a
myspace page where you can sign up for announcements.
love that eskender tafari 12" - the simms & edmund flip is so nice.
soulonice:
how is los diablos on musixmex? always curious about stuff on the label as i have a few good ones....
a few from the weekend when i shouldn't have been looking:
LPs
Bobby Hamilton Quintet - Dream Queen
V/A - Rocksteady Coxsone Style (OG UK press)
Sister Carol - Liberation for Africa on Serious Gold
Gemini Brass- Keep on the Right Side
Sonya Spence - Sings Love on High Note
Ranking Dread - Lots of Loving on Tad's
45's
Skatalites - Exodus on Coxsone
Tennors - Pressure & The Slide on Studio 1
???? - People Get Ready (Dodd production, i'm guessing the Minstrels doing Curtis but it's a blank- maybe early 70's press- no clue on matrix numbers here, but it was sitting with a bunch of OG label Beverley's 45's, so perhaps OG)
Nabbed a few joints this week (Phase III, Erma Franklin, Sonny Phillips, etc.), but while cleaning up my office I found these:
and my other copy of
Peace,
SONIC
Mostly pretty unremarkable, but a couple nice
popsikey tunes with organ and a cover of the
Beatles "Don't Let Me Down" which is neat.
As for mine, I know its not really the weekend anymore.......but,
bam
