... some song I have NEVER heard before, and I NAIL it on who it is just by who is playing. It happens all the time with Coltrane and all that... but it just happened with an Eddie Harris song I never heard before.Makes me feel GOOD.

I'm ready to stay in for once. Over and out.

i just finished season 1; omar and bubbles are my favorites, followed by lester and bunke. mcnutty is pretty cool too...
My Pops lives for this shit.
Calls it the "blindfold test" and has a friend
down in FL that he swaps tapes with where they
try to stump each other.
When he'll ask me "you know who that tenor is?"
and I listen carefully and say "...Sonny Rollins?"
and he goes "ahhh! jeez! no! Dexter Gordon, come on!"
I don't feel very
I can usually get like all the BIG dudes on first try, but this was just nice. Also I can get some piano dudes.
But try getting a DRUMMER!
my favourite section of downbeat mag!

jack dejohnette is very easy to identify, i can usually get billy cobham, elvin jones is pretty recognizable as well

I am moving to Wayne today which is why i ask.
Whats the deal on the the mingus coleman beef?
Hey D,
That weather is CRAZY out there, huh? Man, I guess I'm staying in and reviewing a paper for Human Relations journal. At least I can get something done today. I have papers at school to grade, but I'm not dare treading the treacherous roads to get them. Damn that!!! They will still be in the office on Monday. I'm in for the day.
Peace,
Big Stacks from Kakalak
I can spot Tony Williams a mile away(until he gets all fusiony in the 70s)...just listen to his right hand on that ride...then the boomp crack.
Also I am pretty good at picking out Art Blakey, his kit sounds like no other, plus those "press rolls" are his signature
but other than those two...its a crap shoot.

I'm riding this Berwyn lease till July. Where's Wayne?
a likki boom boom down.
Hey Stacks,
How much snow did you get up there? We got hit with some violent and heavy sludge. Almost wrecked my car when going to the grocery store at 2am, but now the streets are pretty clean.

R5 represent, I grew up in West Chester, but my Dad lives in Paoli and I used to go there on weekends and hop the train to the city unbeknownst to my mom.
The most we've had here is 11 inches. I'm just on chill mode here in the crib, although I had planned to go into the office to knock it a shitload of course project grading (end-of-semester related). Sometimes, you gotta say "fuck it." I can make up a day missed pretty easily. I hope it's not more than that, or I might be fucked. There are a lot of demands on a brotha right now. Whatcha up to today?
Peace,
Big Stacks from Kakalak
i can pick out stubblefield in most late 80s rap joints.
aint nothin deep
It's sure good to say "fuck it" once in a while to take some time and relax. I had to get out there and face the elements today. Pay the rent and head to work. It would be nice to sleep in, but 9am wake-up calls from clients are a pain in the ass (though I probably should be awake by then!). Still going to attempt to take it easy today. I have to get a website for these local jazz events up and running though.
