it's also adorable when after just once been spun with a bad needle, they have a continuous hiss all the way through...
seriously, the only upside they have is that scratches are less audible due to the material being harder than Vinyl. The pop you hear on a vinyl record comes from a portion of the material being deformed and reaching inside the groove. With Styrene, a scratch mostly just removes material and does not deform it. The big downside is that due to it's hardness, Styrene is much more prone to wear than Vinyl which is more elastic.
I shouldn't tell this but many years ago, when I still was a very bad boy, I once had a chunk of cocaine fall out of one of my nostrils. Damn thing fell into the groove of a styrene 45 and got cought under the stylus. A screetching sound came out of the speakers, the whole intro of that 45 was permanently damaged. Shit, I really shouldn't have told this...
