Is it normal for the mpc 60 to make a squealing sound? Not a loud one, but when you turn it on it goes "errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr." Stays on the whole time. Fill me in if you know the deal. Thanks.

I know exactly what you're talking about.
Same thing happened to mine about 6 years back.
I was told that it actually had something to do with the backlight of the display slowly dying.
As AKAI no longer has the replacement part for it, they had to have it sent to somewhere in East Asia to get a new backlight.
The high pitched sound is still there but now it's barely noticeable.
Hope that helps.
Paul, you are probably right. It's coming from the top of the machine, near the screen.
Thanks guys.

You can order a backlight in different colors, Forat will modify a 3000 backlight which turns the display yellow, which is supposed to be very clear, but I have never seen a pic so I can't vouch for that. Most people go with blue or green, but there is a white backlight which is what I use, it's very clear to read, but the color is more of a light blue than white.
You can see pictures of both blue and white backlights close up in the MPC60 Yahoo Group photos section.

ordering a new screen was expensive, and there are about 4 layers of IC sangwhich in thurr. It is kind of a bitch to do, but man, your eyes will thank you for it. Knowing how you work (sorta), I would say that the 3.10 software is essential for you. There is just too much tomfuckery without it. Get at a dood if you have any specific Q's, I used it for years and am pretty much in the know about what it can/can't do.
6.
i was tryin to install an internal card reader for my 60 and messed up the backlight
im sendin it off to forat to get the internal card reader installed and that also will leave me with a scsi port in the back of my mpc as well... definitely a good look
im goin to see how much he charges to change out the bad backlight i have
It looks so much cooler than the 2000. It's like a nice piece of furniture, with the side panels and the padded palm rest at the bottom.
I hope I still get plenty of use out of it before I have to change the screen. And Lumin, let us know how you get on with the internal card reader, I think I'm gonna have to get one for xmas.
