It's record cleaning day! Anyway, looking at my records got me thinking: "who do other people associate with this label?" For example I see Polydor and I think Roy Ayers, Janus = Cymande etc, etc. So who do you associate with:Polydor:Janus:Curtom: De-Lite:Atco:Motown/ Gordy/ Tamla: Flying Dutchman:Fantasy:Alston:Mercury:Cat:Westbound:West-End:Fania:etc....tjames

These are all based on 45 label mental images.
-Janus:
-Curtom: Curtis Mayfield
-De-Lite: Kool & the Gang (plus a "gang" of funk bands with a similar sound, like the Kay-Gees)
-Atco:
-Motown/ Gordy/ Tamla: soul in general
-Flying Dutchman: Gil Scott-Heron (and other black revolutionaries like Angela Davis and Stanley Crouch); Lonnie Liston Smith; Oliver Nelson; Leon Thomas; older jazz cats like Louis Armstrong and Willie "The Lion" Smith
-Fantasy: jazz reissues, Creedence, Lenny Bruce
-Alston: Betty Wright
-Mercury:
-Cat: Gwen McCrae, Little Beaver
-Westbound: Funkadelic, Ohio Players, Denise LaSalle
-West-End: disco in general (which is not my thing, so I'm not too familiar with their artists)
-Fania: salsa in general (as if they released anything else?)
As for the labels I didn't list...Mercury, Atco, and Janus' stables were rather diverse; I don't identify them with one or two specific artists.
