Hey, A*drew! Nice to see you around these parts again!
Thanks M$rk. Yeah, I've been Soulcreepin' more than Soulstrutin'. Been busy with a new girl and radio show. I'm trippin' on all the new graemlins around here!
Roundup of this and the previous weekend. Fleas, the Cph record fair and a few trades. Shouts to upskiboo, pac, wunderbaum and laplanetesauvage for the swap action. SSO, Shaft's B.S., Jesse Morrison, Bill Laswell and Ingram are doubles.
What's up with Bruce & Vlady? Cool cover, but I know nothing about it.
That Della Reese LP is a cool one, great sound. I got the Sam Dees this week myself, and have been loving it. It'll show up again later in this thread, and the MP3's are ready for Record Day
I'll see your Simon & Garfunkel, and raise you one YOUNGBLOODS! Actually, bought it on a Dante C. recommendation on W*******y - well worth the $1. Besides the Sam Dees (thanks, R*y!), everything here was bought local and cheap - and I traded a Black Fist OST to Re*d at In Yo*r Ear for the John Berberian. Wanted the Scarface OST forever, my "Rush, Rush" 12" just wasn't cutting it - I have around 9 Impressions LP's, but somehow never had this classic - "Emotions" has been burned on my soul since Miss Bassie put it in a mix...Litter is an EVA repop, but a dope fuzzed out classic, and the folky shit on the bottom middle had promise: Takoma label, crazy band, but is Krishna folk rock/gospel with one real cool hindu/moog track and most of the other songs just straight-up
Also from Re*d:
And, last night we had a party at my house, and my good friend P*ul tells me he's got some records in the trunk of his car for me ... before he takes off he puts around 60 punk/hardcore albums, a bunch of classics and a few rares, in my drunken hands - just for the hell of it!
Sometimes it's cool being the "record guy" in your crew!
It's a solid piece of vocal souljazz. Contains yet another version of "Compared To What". I always liked her voice. The funny thing is, whenever I see her name or listen to her records, I can't help but think of her as Vera in "Harlem Nights". That was a pretty hilarious role, and I saw that movie way before knowing she was a singer.
Really digging that Jimmie & Vella Cameron Lp right now. Nice folky soul.
Guy came by the shop this weekend and told me that his deceased partner was a DJ from the late 70's til he passed in 1991 and wanted me to look at his records. Went over this morning and bought about 100. Lotsa crazy disco. I'm keeping these and purposely not listening to the rest so I'll sell em instead of taking them home.
12"s - Rolling Stones - Hot Stuff (Rolling Stones) Dinosaur L - Go Bang! (Sleeping Bag) Wayne Ford - Dance to the Beat Freakout (Queen Constance) red vinly OG Liquid Liquid - Optimo/Cavern/Scraper/Out (99)
7"s- Resonance - OK Chicago/Yellow Train (Sirocco) Di Melo - Pernalonga/Kilario (Odeon) ebay buy that arrived today. funky brazilian.
LP's- Ray Barretto - Acid (Fania) LONG time want. No cover though. Any help?
if you didn't go to jinx74's garage sale, then you slept on some gems for cheap. all his lps and 12's were $2. the atrio was courtesy of kidinquisitive (thanks again!)
Di Melo - Pernalonga/Kilario (Odeon) ebay buy that arrived today. funky brazilian.
Two years ago, a seller I know had 5 copies of this 7" priced $2.50 each. I bought 2 copies, and gave one to a friend of mine. One month later, a record store was selling it for $50.
The best record I got this weekend was an unplayed copy of Trem "Sheer Talent". It's an extremely rare Melbourne hiphop 12". Also got Rob Natrule "A Night On The Tiles" 12" (rob from unkut.com) For some reason I slept on this when it came out. Nicole Willis and The Soul Investigators "Keep Reaching Up" LP. This kills it! Invisible man is awesome. A weird Sonic Youth album. I think it's called Perspectives Musicales. It's on their own label, SYR and it's quite experimental. I didn't know it was a 45rpm 12" when I first listened to it, but it sounds perfectly normal at 45 and 33. I got a record by the Palace Brothers last weekend and absolutely love it. I played it to a mate of mine and he told me it's an alias of Bonnie Prince Billy.
The 45s I picked up were Gene Chandler- I won't need you b/w no peace no satisfaction James Brown- the drunk Parliament- tear the roof off this sucker

If my memory serves me right, the album was damn good.
I'm seeing double, and I haven't been drinking.
What's that on Elite?

This is like the number one cover-less or beat to shit record in all of Florida. Infuriating!
