Even though I cosign on calling out SportCasual for his tactless posting, I will agree with him on the Louie Ramirez - Different Shade of Black LP. I'm actually listening/recording it right now and there's a couple bangers on there. Do It Anyway You Wanna is the highlight for sure.

SF is funny like that, I mean there's a lot of heads here that appreciate some lesser known disco joints, so you would think that you would be able to take it there, but its tough to really grab a crowd and get 'em moving unless you play more of the well known stuff. There's been a buncha threads over time on SS dealing with disco/boogie stuff, and its always funny to me how cats are like "GUARANTEED FLOOR FILLER," when I'm thinking man where do ya'll play? I wish it was more like that here. Sometimes, but only sometimes you can motivate a crowd with a solid disco set.

as a dj: i feel it is my job TO PLAY these "lesser" known joints...that way they will be known if i beat you in the head until you get familiar.
its funny when i dj b-boy events the b-boys want ill rare shit mixed in with classics like apache , yellow sunshine...etc but when it comes time for the poppin batlle.....its the same old shit cameo/shake your pants i just wanna be, one nation under a groove, gap band, zapp etc..
god forbid if i play mobley gang, or visions of tomorrow, or outta limit....luckily ray parker jr for those who like to groove they know !
i believe true music lovers seek out what they dont hear on the reg , provided it bumps.....i know i did, and that is why i do what i do.
have the balls to drop these records....if you dont nobody else will.
for years i've wanted to start a dj union....but it would never work.
roller boogie era etc.... although wild was just sold for 30 mill to a rock station, a bad one at that.
Oh man, the 8 months or so before they were sold, when WILD was rocking that "classic soul" format, was straight heaven! I never changed the damn station - driving around at work all day to "Don't Look Any Further" into "Second Time Around" into "Clean Up Woman" into "Get Up, Get Into It, Get involved" into "Mister Magic" etc etc...
Rideout: "Something Special". Is this a common or just some random private press joint. It's a disco 45 I picked up on Hot Likcs record with an instrumental on the flip.
local record. (415, right?)
It's not a banger persay , but it used to be worth a good 25-40, the 12" about twice that. Not sure if it's held up in value, there was some quantity of it going around a few years back.
Now really, who else bumps Bloodstone's "My Love Grows Stronger" on the reg? That shit is my JAMMM! Never leaves my crate.

I'm not sure if it's a banger but I've had good response with it many times. Might be a bit difficult, but it is local so stick it in there somewhere. And the value----- either I overpaid or our Mr. B. Cause is wrong.
It's just a lame genre term that hipsters were throwing around a few years ago.
On one occasion, crazypoprock tried to explain to me that I was misunderstanding the fundamental nature of "disco not disco".
i don't recall this convo...please refresh my memory. i seriously doubt it took place however.
it's just a bullshit revisionist term but it's fun to use. and those comps are dope and go for big money now on ebay! if you didn't get them when they came out you are out of luck unless you want to drop $50 to $100 on them. a few of my faves:
Hidden Strength "Hustle On Up" 12" Blair "Nightlife" 12" Patrice Rushen "I'll never give you up" and "Haven't You Heard" 12" Bumblebee Unlimited "Lady Bug" 12" Chain Reaction "Dance Freak" 12" Fatback "Spanish Hustle" 12" Powerline "Double Journey" 12" Matsubara "S.O.S." 12" Cerrone "Supernature" 12" Q "The Voice of Q" 12" Massara "Margherita" 12" Plastic Mode "Baya Imperial" 12" etc all originals of course
Machine - There But For The Grace Of God Miz Davis - Sing A Happy Song Frank Hooker & The Positive People - This Feelin' The 3 Degrees - The Runner - the middle instrumental bit just pounds.
Kinky Foxx "so different" Rappers Unlimited "nighttime plaything" Symbol 8 "i thought you wanted to dance" (of course on both Shock and Midtown for different flipsides..) Scherrick "just call" Central Line "time for some fun" Mass Production "come get some of this" (instr.) Clausel "let me love you" (if pitched..) Central line "walking into sunshine" Barbara Norris "it's heavy!"
Brenda Taylor - You can???t have the cake First Choice Let no man put asunder (Frankie knuckles) Space Cadets - Spaced outta place Aretha Franklin - Jump to it John Gibbs - Trinidad Rose Royce - Still in love Syreeta - Can???t shake your love Roy Ayers - Running away

I used to have like 10 copies of that.
Should have held 'em a few more years it appears!
Never worked too good for me in the club tho, but then again Frisco ain't the hippest crowd to this stuff (local or not).
