FLIP IT OVER!!![/b]
The reason why "Shimmy" is so common is because it was the B-side to a devastating southern soul ballad..."Nothing Takes The Place Of You." It was a major hit single on the R&B charts, was the title track to McCall's only album (with a pompadoured white guy 'n' his out-of-focus girlfriend-in-the-background on the cover!), turned up on a few oldies compilations, and McCall himself even appeared in the movie Hairspray lipsynching it (some 22 years after it was a hit!). "I moved your pictures...from my wall...and I replaced them...both large & small...and each new day...finds me so blue...BECAUSE NOTHING...TAKES THE PLACE OF YOU..."
I think we've been through this before, but Nothing Takes the Place of You B/W Shimmy is absolutely my pick for the greatest two sider of all time. Funky16corners has been over the greatness of Shimmy in his blog, particularly the awesomeness of a >1 minute one note Hammond solo. And the ballad side is unfuckwittable.
Here 'tis

Ah! how could I forget G.Crook? I actually think "Gimme Some" is closer to a dollar even. Seems to be laying around a lot more often than "Time."
also forgot about Maceo & the Kingsmen 45s
And regarding Shimmy, I've actually had it on my to-do list since the last discussion... but tonight is the night I'm gonna flip ol' Toussaint over and see what he's all about (AYO!!!) jeez, sorry.
