So I'm looking to buy a fairly cheap digital recorder (don't trust computers, so I won't go the harddrive recording route, plus I need to be able to move the recording gear around). I'm thinking either this: or this: Anyone used any of them, or know another model I should be looking at?

    or this:

Why not go for one of these then?

If you back your shit up, computer recording is the way to go. Why lock yourself in to the same preamps, eqs, fx, etc for ever. Step into 2002 man....

If you want an all in one joint, check out the Yamaha AW4416 family.
They're really good & somewhat slept on recorders.
If you buy it used, shouldn't run too much.
You can get a add-on cards for plugin's & i/o options as well.

You can also export everything to .WAV, so if down the line you go computer you can import everything. i.e. into ProTools, etc...

    just my .02

I know my computer mistrust is highly illogical, but what do you do if you go somewhere else to record drums or other instruments? Wouldn't one of these be good for that? Is the problem the soundquality or just that you have fewer options? The latter doesn't really bother me.
