The singer is working on some new stuff here in DC, should be good.
Purple Blaze =
Never really listened to them, but my homegirl Neko sings with them. She and I used to go to lots of punk rock shows and do lots of drinking together back in the 80s in Tacoma, WA. She is mad cool.
really? that's too bad, i was looking forward to hearing this.
do you have any mp3s i could hear?
I really dig The New Pornographers, have done so for years. GET ON MY LEVEL
Although, I wouldn't really say they're "emo", I feel they have more of a "pop" vibe, but that's just boring pitchforkian hair splitting. What I do like about them is the fact that for each of their albums, I've kinda just felt meh about them during the first listen but upon repeated plays it really starts to grow on me, which is something I can say for many of my favorite bands.
Oh, and, they can be really hit and miss live, they did two nights in a row at Bimbo's 365 in SF, on the first night they were apparently really off but on the second night they killed it as far as I'm concerned. Plus, they ended their set with a Journey song that they didn't really know the lyrics to.
I had the promo but I gave it away to a friend...a lot of it is like the quieter moments on Power.
Beautiful.
I had forgotten their name yesterday, but I was actually thinking about a band called Ris Paul Ric which, as far as I know, is still sort of in-progress. Obviously I haven't heard them yet, but from the way it's been described to me by a friend of mine in the group, it should be interesting...
Ris Paul Ric[/b] = Chris Paul Ric[/b]hards of Q and Not U. Purple Blaze was his first album under that name but there's been rumblings that his new stuff is very different. I'll wait and see. he has two songs on his myspace from his last album: www.myspace.com/rispaulric
oh, ok. shows how much i have been keeping up with it. i checked out those tracks. his new stuff, from what i understand, should be a completely different direction altogether.

the term "emo" has gotta go though
cos its way more emo
then: ian mackaye term, (some) dischord bands, 'emotive'
now: pop-punk lite a la white belts, chucks and no reaction audiences at shows
how many emos does it take to screw in a light bulb?
none, they all cry in the dark.
i say all this in the spirit of friendship, of course.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
from what I have heard, very different indeed. and very dope.
I know the actual "definition" of "emo" and the roots of it as well, understanding that todays "emo" music is a far cry from what it's original genesis is.
However I just throw that term around as a blanket term for this type of indie rock like music. I was never a part of this type of stuff, like really I'm woefully ignorant of music that falls under these parameters.
Seriously though, I'm in my 30s and I couldn't tell the difference between The Smiths and The Cure until last year.
[color:white] me too [/color]
oh the irony! being called emo, but never showing emo
i was being silly. i think the term has less and less to do with music and more and more with clothing/scenes.
i myself prefer emu.
EMU
as well as EMU
I don't know what that is, Frank.
i like the math binder-esque doodling on the wall.
it would not be fun to be in the first row of that show.
