other than ON (Ontario) and CA (Canada) none of the other info looks remotely familiar...i obviously don't know too much about this. what does this info tell someone about me?

they can go through your computer if they know what they're doing. IP is the address at which your computer can be contacted by other computers on the internet. If you have cable, your ip will change most likely every few weeks, whereas your ip will change every time you sign in with dsl. Static ips are available but at a premium cost.

if you're truly worried, a firewall will protect you.

Fortunately I've always had a firewall, I had no idea how bad it was til I checked the log on it... it is INSANE the number of attempted attacks there are on my PC in any given hour...

cool - thanks for that. the only thing i'm really worried about is if the IP addy gives someone a real clear window into all that i do off the computer and they can get my credit card number and bank info.

    do i sound paranoid?

i also noticed on the strut the maximum search range is just 3 months now.

this will cut down the ability for people to put others on blast

    Agreed.

    Drama might slow down!!!

credit card info can be possible if you've used your computer for online shopping. Potentially someone can get into your system and plan a keystroke grabber. Chances are remote though, so I'm not trying to scare you or anything.

but no, people can't get your address and name from the ip alone. Only the isp themselves have these records, and they are obviously private. The Canadian government was on the verge of requesting isp's to hand over such details due to pressure from priarcy lobbies funded by the major studios. It was dropped at the last minute.

now for an interesting case regarding ip privacy, read this

ps: search restriction will place less burden on the server, raj probably sacrificed it to reduce board down time.

    I see IP addresses

Well, is there an actual reason why they're posted now? Is it to scare miscreants?

I mean, I would think the IPs only expose folks to more attacks. I mean, you post your e-mail on these things and spam emerges in your box.

I personally try to protect my computer the best I can, but I wonder about those that don't. Survival of the fittest 'Strutters, maybe?
