Having real trouble getting my photos resized at Photobucket (yes, i've tried the 'auto' resize...) got some great NY digs this weekend, including some dope non-record digs.
That Washington dude has a badass 45 of his own. Can't remember what it is, I was drunk when I heard it.
Only other thing I've seen with his name is a terrible late 70's LP by him.
Sure you aren't thinking of Ge[/b]no Washington, K?
Gino Washington is the Detroit legend who has a handful of highly sought-after releases on his own ATAC label.
Most common title by him is the early track "Gino Is a Coward/Puppet on a String" which is on a couple of labels.
Pretty sure he never released a proper LP on his own, but Norton Records put out 2 anthology LP/CD's on him just a few years ago.
One release of his you may be familiar with is the 70's 45 "Rat Race" on his ATAC label. He used the backing track of his own 60's track "Like My Baby" (itself a ripoff of a Temptations song) and put a new "socially concious" vocal over it. The reason I think you may know it is Kopp's had stock on it for years, that's where I got my copy.
Geno Washington is the American emigre who recorded in the UK with a band of Brits, releasing a few soulful pop/rock LP's in the mid-late 60's that don't get very good reviews from those familiar with them. I know I have seen a late 70's LP from him as well.
Geno did at least 4 LP's in the late 60's (66 to 68). God knows how many in the 70's.
Never really got into the stuff myself, along the lines of The Foundations.
He did do a decent cover of Syl's Different Strokes on 45.
trippy - I thought for sure they'd stopped using the gold label in 68 or 69. I've had red label copies of funhouse though - which would still be earlier than the butterfly label.
thats weird...I thought the butterfly label was the us original since the white label promos of this have the butterfly label.

I could be mistaken, but I thought the butterfly label started in approx '72.
Anyone have a breakdown on Electra labels? I'm curious about a few...
hmmm.... they leave out the red label with the "large E" - which is the one I'm thinking of. I was fairly certain that this came briefly in-between the gold label, and the butterfly...
You're certain the red label copies you had were OG's, right? Because my Raw Power is a 70's repress that revives that label design. They're usually pretty obvious late 70's pressings, though.
Ok...how do i post it here ? Email it to myself, then post the link ?
na you gotta upload it to a server somewhere. go to yousendit.com, fill your email out and upload it there, wait for it, then copy the link it gives you when its done and put it here.
for less than 5 beans I grabbed a nice batch of about 35 poor dood's 'library' records...so far every one I've listened to has yielded some excellent sounds.

reggae version of sade...pretty dope...nice dub version on the flipped called...you guessed it "dub operator"
very happy to find this...wicked deep disco from mr. bohannon...quite rare too.
been looking for this for ages...is it me or is this tough as hell to find?
solid disco rap that i can't seem to find any info about...know this?
solid early 80s (i think) DC go-go funk joint.
a couple of funky Trinidad calypso jump-offs...the one on the left has covers of "Theme From S.W.A.T." and Ripple "It Sure Is Funky"
