...notice how i drop the clean version of gold digger
i think i saw some of the sisters from the lambda- lambda moo-moos in that clip
i got nothing but love for anyone who waits in line to pay money to hear me play records
My computer won't let me view that footage, but two things:
1) I was talking with the b(irthday)-boy last week, and in the course of conversation, I mentioned how lucky I felt to have come up during a time when dj culture was beginning to infiltrate and the guitar dudes were kinda starting to itch and as a result I got to see shit like an indie-rock club dj double up the break from Sonic Youth's "100%" and get all the earth-toners all into it. Mild, but important, considering the context. I only mention this because it happened to have happened in Athens, back in the young 90s.
2) I was talking with my man Clubbuppington well before last week, and we both agreed that the clean version of "Gold Digger" is the jernt. The stuttering "...she ain't messing with no broke-de-broke-de-broke" is far funkier than the other shit. Other superior clean versions: "Dirty South" and "Mind's Playing Tricks On Me." And probably "Black Nostaljack." Lloyd Price's "Stagger Lee," definitely.
i literally saw a guy wearing one of those elmer fud hats. where is this club? is it cold inside?
it was the winter time in athens ohio so it was cold outside...i don't think it was cold inside though. usually all the bodies packed upstairs make the walls sweat and drip on the downstairs portion of the bar.
I love how you point out to the audience that the clean version is playing..."a real Dj is not afraid to step to the microphone", very nice
thanks, talking on the mic is fun but i can't take all the credit...
