Light your pilot asap. It smells like gas because it is.
and don't worry about the ambient heat generated by the pilot light unless you store your records ON the stove.
And with this, I bid this website farewell.
1. Take out fire insurance
2. Update last will & testament
3. Light pilot light
4. Pray
call PG&E and just ask 'em. And not for nothing the fact that you're checking "soulsturt" qualifies you as a proud recipent of a Young Pimpin' 'Naldo PRIVATE MESSAGE!
Well, if you could see the flame burning when you blew the pilot out, I'd suggest just holding a long stem match up to the same place. All stoves are different though, and there may be a square/rectangular metal plate you have to unscrew first. The gas hasn't been leaking long enough to really be worried about (gas dissipates quickly), so just noodle around in there a bit and you'll figure it out.
wtf
