Weird keys on this joint.
youve just described stevie wonder (ca. 1971-79)
T.O.N.T.O.
synthy soul is some of my favourite kind of stuff.
off the top, i can think of
turner brothers - cause i love you
kool and the gang - light of the worlds
syreeta
striplin and other roy ayers productions
more to come...
side note : why do moogs and african music sound like they were meant for each other?
The flip is pretty good too:
Couple others from Detroit area:
Michael Orr - "Spread Love"
Clifford McClain - "I Can't Fight It"
Percy & Them - "Shake It"
And some weird purple label thing on Fu-Ja.
Classed as fusion rather than soul but the title track is definitely on the soulful tip.
Leaving This Planet - Charles Earland
Leroy Hutson's LPs is filled with beautiful synth backgrounds and solos.
Check his selftitled LP : http://www.worldsoul.com/datas/pics/3315.jpg
If were going the crossover jazz route, then "Turn Off The Lights" from
would definetely fit the description. Khalid Yasin fires up the detuned oscillators and Laura 'Tequila' Logan sings somewhere between a purr and a scream. Classic.
Love that C. Earland choon too. Thanks for the mp3, Junior.

My pleasure. Rest of the album's worth checking out as well, though more on the jazz tip his version of Red Clay is superb.
I've got the album, but I'm too lazy to digitize all my favorites, so it's always nice when someone else has undertaken that tedious task .
My copy doesn't have the cover you posted, though. This is how mine looks:
Which one is the OG?
that one.
Yeah it's your gatefold version - far nicer than the CD reissue cover I posted up (couldn't find a copy of the OG in google). As far as I know it's never been reissued on vinyl
everything you could want right there: moog, melotron, echoplex and a big ass retarded drum break.
