I would've tapped but I have company in town tonight. That's cool, though, she issued me a raincheck for the raincoat. I'ma reign...reign forever.)The night started off on a good note with my partner DJ Bonus (hold the ayo) blessing me with $2 copies of the the first two Earth, Wind & Fire LP's and Juvy's "Ha" 12" that he found. (A very special shout-out to Tate & King Moist for the text message BPM assistance on "Ha." I didn't get a chance to drop it in the mix, but damn if it didn't give me those warm, fuzzy "I HEART SOULSTRUT" feelings all over.)Now post your shit, hoLmeses.Herm

I recently invented it in a post to Daze. My genius wit never ceases to amaze me!
Oracle Zia's. Dude found a GRIP o' old Hip Hop 12"s, too (including Kurupt "Girls All Pause," Too Short "I Ain't Trippin'," BIG's "10 Crack Commandments," etc.). Lucky bastard.
Great sets Brian! I didn't know that Daily Flash came out on a 45.
Thanks, I figure you're one of about maybe three people who would even care to read that here. The Daily Flash is the flip side to "Jack of Diamonds".
I have some mid-80's UK reissue of their stuff with both of those tracks and live versions of 'Queen Jane Approximately" and 'Canteloupe Island'(?!?).
DINNER HOUR
Don Sebesky: "Guru Vin"
Lots of cuts from the Dum Dum Project DESI VIBES album
Alan Lorber: "Flute Thing"
Cal Tjader: "The Fakir"
Chakademus & Pliers "Murder She Wrote" ---> Raghav "Tere Badon" (same riddim)
Asha Bhosle: "Chura Liya"
TOAST
Alka Yagnik: "Saanwariya Saanwariya"
Ananda Shankar: "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
(Gagan's mom's friend came up to me and told me that Ananda was her music teacher in Calcutta. That makes the 2nd person I know who met A.S. personally)
DANCE PARTY
Bolly remixes of "Jimmy Jimmy," "Yun Hi Chala Chal," "Laila O Laila"
Nazia Hassan: "Disco Deewane"
"It's the Time To Disco" (request)
Oldschool bhangra like Sukhbir, Daler Mehndi (request), Malkit Singh
Panjabi MC: "Dhol Jageero Da" (request)
Lots of bhangra/hiphop joints
The best moment was when I dropped this in between Swami's "Desi Rock" and Panjabi Hit Squad's "Hai Hai":
Freestyle feat. Afro-Rican: "Put Your Weight Down On It"
SLOW DANCE AT END OF NIGHT
Bally Sagoo & Gunjan: "Noorie"
"Kuch Kuch Hota Hai"
Juggy D: "Akheer"
Laxmikant Pyarelal: "Main Shair To Nahin"
Overall a real fun time with lots of good people.
Grab 'Beware of Dog', cool funky hammond tune on the flip side of 'The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde'on Epic.
That song is taken from the Imperial album GET AWAY (US version), which also features many other good cuts like the "Last Night" track that Agent45 played.
Cosign w/ F16 on the HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY hammond cut "Beware of the Dog" on the b-side of the "Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde" 45. Not too hard to find either. I might actually have a spare.
I think alot of folks miss out on that because the a-side is such a piece of shit...
Besides the killer 'Somebody Stole My Thunder', I recommend:
No Thanks (UK only I believe)
Preach & Teach (US Imperial)
In The Meantime (US Imperial, I believe)
None of these are particularly funky, but are fantastic.
Great setlist, Mr Poust - Clayton Squares is a fave of mine.
US releases, just get everything on Imperial + the Beware of the Dog 45 (Epic). Only completists should concern themselves with anything on Island.
UK/Euro: I go a bit further with Fame than a lot of people do. For instance, I really dig his "Does His Thing With Strings" album, which most people don't. So I would say everything on R&B, Columbia and CBS. Well, not all of the CBS 45s I guess - mostly "No Thanks" (which has a US pic sleeve) and "Somebody Stole My Thunder". But I just can't move any of his Columbia 45s out of the "must have" category. I'm a big fan, so I'm not at all objective.
UK albums that you need:
Rhythm & Blues at The Flamingo
Fame At Last (subtle track differences from the US counterpart)
Sweet Thing (subtle track differences from the US counterpart)
Sound Venture (hellafuckingood big band LP)
