3) I don't like the idea of having regular set days to buy gifts for people you appreciate. I, rather, like the idea of appreciating your friends whenever you feel necessary and have the means to do so. I find my friends and partners get a lot more out of this than the regular Birthday, Christmas, and in the case of a partner Valentine cycle.
hmmm, i guess i'll take that stark reality LP back to ebay then...
just kidding. for some reason, i've only had a girlfriend for valentine's day twice... once when i was 17, and the other one with the most difficult woman i ever dated (last year when i made the mistake of breaking up with my current squeeze for a girl i was engaged to in the past). aside from the first one being my baby mama, i have no idea what the other is getting. this year, my girl is really excited, and i have no idea what the fuck to get her. she already made reservations somewhere, but she's impossible to shop for. she said wants lingerie, so that's a start, but i don't want to come out all, "here's some titty swings, happy valentine's day!" ...suggestions?

I'm crackin up over here at the thought of "titty swings" being the first thing thought of when lingerie is mentioned.
Funny stuff Magic. Get her a GC then go w/ her and y'all pick that shit out togetha. Or just peel some hundys off yr billwad and just tell her "Go getcha somethin' sexy, babe."
Is this the "contrived corporate holiday" argument? Plaese to essplane.
it sort of has something to do with that... i always thought it was stupid, and my wife was the first girl i dated who agreed, so i married her lol... nah, we used to do a little something when we were dating, like go out to eat or something, but we've been married for a minute and have a daughter who is almost 3, so it just seems much less important to either of us... we both got our little girl something, though
not being a religious person, i don't have much interest in holidays in general... i tend to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries more than holidays because they are actually relevant to my life... i really dislike christmas, but i grin through it for my daughter's sake
I've never agreed with the 'Hallmark' holiday frenzy. I don't need a specific day of the year to tell my girl how I feel about her. Saying that, of course i'll do something nice for her... but I don't get caught up in all the BS that swamps most people...
going out on feb 14th is always a fun night for young single folk.
yes sir... a few years ago, my old roommate and i went to a valentine-less party, and both of us came home at the same time the next day with that "you too!?" look on our faces.

I dont like the commercialism of it all, guilting the nation into shelling out shitloads of money otherwise they are heartless.
What I do like about it, is creating the best experience for her.. romancing her the right way (and you know it means more to a woman on Valentines Day). Get the cullinary skills on the case and make a meal for the both of you.. add some candles.. put on some meaningful music (to remember the night by).. turn up the passion.. you know.. that kind of thing. Get a meaningful present.. like a picture of you both.
Okay exchange cards, but its more fun to set a mutual bet to see who can buy the lamest, cheapest or smallest card... who ever wins gets extra extra special treatment later on.. Trust me, never will you ever care so much about buying the right card!! Me - I'm a giver - plus its her day anyway.
Its about how you make them feel and knowing how to achieve it.
Okay, enough of this valentines jawn, lets talk reddiks dammit.
it's not a big deal to me, I can take it or leave it. Yet if you're abstaining from celebrating in lieu of a partner that is fond of the holiday, then it's such not a good look. Throw those ethics out the door, the most significant benefit of celebrating is making somebody else happy. It's not like it's hard work, so there's no harm in bringing a little cheer to that special someone in your life.
think from the girl's perspective, is all I'm saying.

Ha ha... been doing that with my family's birthdays for years now, it became such a great joke... we're always trying to outdo ourselves with the worst cards. 99c stores never had it so good...
I have a little Valentine's Day quandary on my hands. Me and my lady of two-plus years were on the brink of break up. I sort of messed up, but the lady blew it way out or proportion and said some shit she shouldn't have said. That was Thursday night. Then she made huge efforts for the next three days to patch it up, taking me out to dinner and just being a sweetheart. I'm still a little weary about the whole situation. I mean, I still love the girl and would like to continue the relationship. At the same time, I'm not sure if I'm ready to slip back into nice-guy mode and hook it up for Valentine's Day.

In this situation, you gotta take into account what you want the end goal to be. Tomorrow is a kinda crucial day for ya'll, as I see it, because if you choose to down play it or not recognize it at all, she'll take that as, "OK, I've done all the making up I can do. He's not reciprocating, I guess we're thru." On the other hand, if you're thinking this is just a bump in the road, but that you do still want to keep on truckin' it with her, then show ol' girl some love.

I see it as an opportunity to shine for you and dictate your own pace. Dont take it as a 'nice guy' fall back in the mold day (cheesy shit+card etc).
Girl seems to be really trying to make it up to you. You can the initiative of setting up some shit. Nice setting/dinner and she will be excited to be there and (hopeful, happy) but then you play it smooth and you guys talk over the shit you had to but then its like 'well girl ok its all good' So you get the 'upperhand' not going in to fast but keeping both of you happy

i suggest you giftwrap one of these, and give it to her... then, ask her where your present is.

Showing her some love is probably the best advice. She's made enough of an effort. Holding out wouldn't really do any good at this point. For the most part, she's a really cool girlfriend.
As a side note, White Castles is accepting reservations tomorrow night for some candle-lit Slyders. That might do the trick.

She'd probably like that gift. Sometimes she likes to read those sort of 'relationship' books together.

Right, continuing to hold out would beget bittrness at this point. It sounds like she's already kind on pins & needles.

It's another excuse to spend $$$$$$$$$ on my girl.
Dinner, Mark Jacobs Purse, Nanette Lepore Top, Dozen Roses to work etc....
I'm hoping I get a no strings attached BJ out of the deal, at least.
Whatever. This Holiday is straight up a waste of money and annoying.

I'm celebrating this year by getting a root canal
We usually do something special, it's also the anniversary of our first real date. I like to buy her a record, and she does likewise. The family that digs together, stays together.
