Well, if we're going to include all of it then here's a couple I've seen go on eBay:

    Earl Carter And The Fantastic 6 - S/T $310.29/$274/$182.50

Cult - Mail Must Go Through - $498

Damn Sam And The Soul Congregation - $325/$321.01

Moses Dillard And The Tex-Town Display - Now! $1,095

Hilton Felton - Family And Friends - $423

Vernon Garrett - Going To My Baby's Place - $455/$381/$361/$396/$400/$300

King Herbert And The Knights With Jack Harden - S/T - $300/$410/$371reserve not met/$225

Carl Sherlock Holmes - Investigation $476.87/$400/$282/$330

    Irvin Weldon - Time Capsul - $234.59/$330/$260/$280/$199/$399.99no bids/$232.50/$417.20/$404

Webster Lewis- Live At Club 7 $499.99

Billy Martin & The Soul Jets - I Turn You On $393/$163.50

Frank Motley & The Bridge Crossing - Chip Dip - $355

Frank Motley & The Hitch Hikers/King Herbert & The Knights - Hell Beat - $355/$304

    Network - I Need You - $578

    Roy Porter - Inner Feelings - $384.99/$67/$361.99

Lou Ragland - Understand Each Other - $609.99/$549/$525

    Ray And His Court - S/T - $224.72/$63/$455

Sunny & The Sunliners - Missing Link $266.99

    Turner Bros. - Act 1 - $731

Bobby Williams - Funky Superfly $272/$596/$133/$224/$237/$325.56

Wooden Glass - Ft. Billy Wooten - $150/$635/$203.51/$290.85/$685

Motley's, Herbert, Lou Ragland, Billy Martin, and jsut about ever other album on that list (save for a bout 5) are not jazz funk IMO.

    K in Canada.

These are jazzfunk. Cult and DamSam are borderline.

  • jazzfunk lps does not catch the same prices as psych or 45's, still i would think the 10 most costly would be in the vicinity $1000 ?

I would only list 2 LPs as Jazz-Funk over 1000$ (in Mint condition), where they could also be said to be more like Soul-Jazz/Funky-Jazz than Jazz-Funk. 1. Wooden Glass: Live 2. Roy Porter: Jessica.

Those LP's remind me why the price of most records make no sense.

Seconded. Knowledge of past sales aside, I wouldn't pay over 10 bcuks for any of those LP's.

    I prefer unknown unknowns, K.

I know, but this is a one time exception and compared with the other reached prices past 4 years and is not fully representing the actual marked value. If one time high prices would represent the value over a certain time period, the Arthur Monday 45 would still be at over 3000-4000$ but actually it's around 1000-1200$. I think it's more like, skip the highest and lowest and middle all between in comparable condition, and you have about it's value.

Although, to be fair, I really can't believe dudes are arguing "Soulful Jazzy-Funk" vs "Funky Jazz-Soul" vs. "Soul-Jazz/Funky-Jazz" vs. "Jazz-Funk".

That shitty Starcrost seems to sell for 500+ all the time though. A fellow on this board just sold a sealed one for nearly the price of that popsike copy.

I find the starcrost enjoyable, not sure why there's such a resentment to it on here as of late. The other fable joints are terds, but I ain't mad at the starcrost at all.

that doesn't mean I want to pay $500 for it.

a funny thing about that lp is that it says "om det ??r n??n j??vel som tar mer ??n 20 sp??nn f??r den h??r - k??p den inte!?" on the bottom on the front cover.

and a translation for the non swedish speaking part of soulstrut:

"if theres any fucker that charges more than 2$ for this -- dont buy it!?"

how bout the McNeal & Niles, thats kinda tough to find right ?

  • NOT that i would be able to buy any but what are they and at what cost???

LA jazz funk record one time that would probably go for a 600-1000 if anyone ever discovered it...can't give the name though, I've been sworn to secrecy.

not to hate...but what is the point of even mentioning shit like this ?!!! thats that corny shit...if it truly is that rare...fuck it.

i was actually joking i wasn't really sworn to secrecy. to tell you the truth i don't remember the name of the artist but the name of the record is peanut butter funk. it's pretty ill. sounds like an unknown tribe record release. all i remember is it's a guy that was big in the local LA jazz scene.

and for the record i think starcrost and 47 times it's own weight are dope. i thought starcrost was wack the first couple of times i heard it but put it into the ipod and it really grew on me. if you are expecting wicked deep funk then you will be dissapointed because it's just really a fusion record.

You don't know this? It's your kinda thing in your backyard... hehe

Anyhow it's got a funky version of "hicky-burr" and another good track if I remember correctly, but nothing to go nuts over.

  • Yeah to echo other people's opinions.... "funky jazz" just doesn't play out the same way as, say, funk 45s or private psych LPs, which often times have going rates set by repeat sales. Plus in the UK you have a small number of people who basically run the funk "market". No such thing exists for this kind of music. I have no idea why, maybe it's not as fetishizable, isn't of public enough interest, or is non-DJ'able. Who knows, really.

I've had a few conversations the last few days about private US free/spiritual jazz. People just don't consider it worthy of attention, especially americans. It's actually a good time to be around.

Anyhow, obscure and expensive records blow.
Just pick up what you like, when you see it sell for $500 you'll have a laugh. terumasa hino on inner city is cool shit. Charles moffett family sealed from moroer for thirrrrty dollar.

you got this too WOW... well really been tryin to have my backyard locked, still shit turns up, theres some swedish joints ive been after for a while, horselmat, ive seen that cover once before on ebay never heard it or the hype. i think the most rare swede i have is the first popworkshop record which is dope, ive heard the third one which arent as good and then theres the second one that i dont know... norway probably has heat too, finland definitely has, but that would be my neighbours back yard

cost and quality are two different things for sho, im into sounds like kufanya mapenzi ramsey lewis red clay freddie hubbard or slinky by awakening, i would chose lots of common unrares over rares music wise!
