    THis is what gets me

Dennis Brown at OBserver...and the obligatory bone-crsuhing KIng Tubby dubs...if you can get your hands on the Canadian press of Deep Down, you'd be set

Dubbing With the Observer - King Tubby and Niney (Observer) think Trojan repressed this - any dub head worth his salt has the goods

Dennis with Phill Pratt - you see both these names on a record, you buy it

Al Campbell with Phill Pratt - ditto

    Wailers with Lee PErry

Glen Brown/MIller with himself - an absolutely astonishing body of work

    Horace Andy/Wayne JArrett with Wackie's

Reggae Goodies vol 1 - Various (Wackie's) NY roots LP of the finest quality

Bob ANdy - Song Book (Studio 1) you can pick up fione sounding 80's pressings of this for cheap - is there any better reggae LP?

    Sugar Minott at Studio 1

all the Treasure ISle/Duke Reid classics - gorgeous soulful rocksteady mixed by a perfectionist Tubby

    Winston Riley's early stuff

    no ALpha Blondy

Johnnie OSbourne 70-83 (Studi 1, Riley, L Thompson and his work in Toronto)

    any of Dave Barker's soul-tinged 60's material

    early Slim SMith/Techniques

Just about any era of Heptones

    Summer records material from Toronto

    BArry Brown/Roots Radics

    Rod Taylor/King CUlture LP

    for Jamaican jazz

    Harold Butler

    Light of Saba

    Cedric Brooks/JAckie Mittoo

    Count Ossie/Cedric Brooks

    TOmmy McCook

    Ernest Ranglin

    LEnnie HIbbert

    and endless more selections.

    K in Canada.

The Trojan Box sets are a great deal. 3 CDs for about $18. Usually there's quite a bit of interesting stuff on there. I like the rare and unreleased set and the soulful one is cool too.

Big cosign. I have 6 of these (Dub, Instrumentals, Sixties, Mod, Skinhead, UK Reggae). All worth checking out.

I think this should be in any reggae collection:

Some heavy shit on here (a few stinkers too to be honest but 95% essential)

  • if you're looking for sweet sweet vocals and you missed this in 2004, go and find it fast...

    and enjoy.

  • no mention of prince buster or coxone dodd?

    i'm not much into ska

Save for the Big Yotuh and accompanying LP, Buster didn't do much beyond the ska/rocksteady era.

Coxsone looks to be represented quite heavily to me, K.

and that the original poster stated not being into ska, therefore, no Prince Buster recommendations.
