but generally I STRONGLY dislike any cover-version of this tune...
Never heard a cover of this song that I wanted to listen to twice.
And really never understood the desire to cover it.
It's not like it's some compositional marvel; what makes the original so great is its sound. So in order to capture the elements of the song that make it good, you've really have to play it too close to the original to be interesting.

i think this is supposed to be a covers list of vinyl releases (although the bart karaoke version might be slammin).
on the hiphop version note, as far as i know a hiphop version would be like a track that sampled some shaft material...right? like dustbrothers for young mc ect, that wouldnt really be a coverversion imo.
i have a 45 by john & ernest called "superfly meets shaft" its not really a cover of the theme but it has clips of the original, and clips of curtis mayfield and james brown answering questions.
It's on an early 70's Avco compilation called Soul Train.
Also: I don't know if you've heard the Bar-Kays'"Son Of Shaft," but it is NOT a cover of the Isaac Hayes tune. Not even a rewording. More like an answer record.

actually i wasnt really sure bout that one either, recall similar gui intro but then vocals over different music, so thanks for the correction... son of shaft is out!

A decent dollar grab and one of the only Shaft covers I actually dig
The back cover's Atlantic rip is both hilarious and impressive to me...

Rez
Horst Jankowski
and i think Percy Faith did one, too. but i have to check this.
I've never done a Hoctor Statler A/B but I am guessing they are different. Competing companys.
no idear if they are the same...?
