[game dorkism] i can see why you'd make that connection - the bright colors are very 64-esque (although katamari handles them with far greater class than any 64 game) and the overall aesthetic owes alot to later sega cell shading shit like jet grind radio.
i agree about 64, i always considered those fucking blocky red/green/blues seizure inducing. and every damn game on the system looked that way. except for goldeneye, which was kinda cool. plus it had a terrible controller.
but you're so far off about saturn. there were a ton of beautiful and ground breaking games on there - nights, guardian heroes, panzer dragoon etc. great rpgs, great for 2d fighters (capcom really came guns blazing on that shit). super slept on system. and it had the greatest controller in the history of gaming. I seriously haven't touched my PS2 in over a year and a half, then decided to buy this game...
same here, i basically bought my ps2 because i felt like i needed to buy a system this gen. pretty much all i've used it for is both katamaris and rez.
