I was very bummed that the thread got deleted... prolly by Anna. I would have kept it up. Raised some valid issues.... scared whitey club owner discouraging rowdy black music.. discuss.

    why'd it get deleted?

    a) we just had a long discussion last week about a club owner/promoter banning rap music

    b) personal connects

    c) hyphie scares white folk

  • ayresayres 1,452 Posts
probably b) personal connects. a bunch of us play there

  • I'm pretty let down by the SF crowd's reaction, to be honest. I would think the response would be "pfffft, this is bullshit" not "dude i might lose my gig! OK I'll play dangermouse next time."

Honestly, I'm not in those shoes so my house is pretty see through and breakable. But still, I gotta call it like I see it...

I think the issue was that someone thought it was uncool to have a private (well, semi-private) email being shared online. I thought it was a legit issue too but we'll see what pans out.

anyway, i was about to say...

how are you going to ban hyphyy? what's hyphy?

seriously. maybe cuz i haven't lived in the bay for a while now... but does this mean you can play "outta control" & WC but no keak? what about "stay fly"? all categories are so difficult to define but especially a new one like hyphy music... banning hyphy from from a club seems like a difficult guideline to follow

I think thats weak... if they believe in where they stand enough to mail it in the first place then they need to stand by it in public... if they didn't think it through enough before writing the mail then its only appropriate it bite them in the ass.

  • huh?

    what's going on here?

hey, so there's this superhyphy tour or somethings going around right now and it stopped in fresno but i heard no one went cuz it was at like 2pm to 6 pm or something weird like that, on a sunday too. i thought that was kinda cute.

*YAWN* this shit happens all the time.

i was told not to play lil jon when he was under the radar.... it starts fights.

blah blah. from a black business owner... and then look what happens... duets with paris. futile.

this one time i went and i think diplo or someone like that was playing there and they were showing these weird swedish art porno movies or some shit and it was empty and this little black midget dude sat down at my table and started rubbing my leg and i was like "get out of here" and he mumbled some shit to me and then his buddy came over and pulled him away and dude went limp and started rolling around on the ground. ive never been back to milk.

So you're saying mashups should be banned as well

I deleted it because the original holder of the note said it was not meant to be posted in a public forum. I respect that. We can continue the discussion here.

i DO think it's wack but
    a. I don't dj at MILK enough to care about upsetting da boss
    b. I don't really like the spot anyway so it's easy for me to hate

they are trying to outlaw the style of music that has actually helped make them a successful club, the funnest parties there have been the Rubs and the local shit with local rap, I'm not trying to go out and dance to some Hollerback Girl.

    OK.

    a. I don't dj at milk at all... but are dudes really that shook?

    b. I do like the spot, the reason I posted it was because I was pissed. I didn't mean to put the homie on blast.

    c. I SERIOUSLY doubt that this will affect the out-of-town DJs like Urrrs, Catchdubs, Eleven, etc. Seems like it's mainly for the locals, who have no other choice but to say "OK"

I would rather someone from the Bay define it, but I can narrow it down and heads can add on:

Hyphy artists are all from the Bay Area of California. Hyphy beats are usually mid-tempo (90 - 100 bpm), not slow like (a lot of) crunk. But it is grimey like crunk. Some hyphy is faster, like up to 110, 120 bpm.

    A few defining artists:

    Federation ("Hyphy," "Go Dumb")
Keak da Sneak ("That's My Word," "Super Hyphy remix")
    The Team ("It's Getting Hot")
Messy Marv ("Get On My Hype")

SERIOUSLY!! and it's only those specific nights that i have/or would want to go to milk. it is really weird to me that they would hate on music that has given them so much business. bizarr-o

ok, that's what i was thinking, but i'd be surprised if (the promoter thinks) its only hyphy rappers that bring in the "negative element" and make them get out of control. like this shit ain't cool but some "neva scared" etc is ok?

    THE REASON:

Yeah its pretty wack, but since I'm not privy to all the intricasies of the situation, Ima wait until I get a clearer picture of what's really going on to make a judgment call.
