So, I'm listening to the Beeb's 1Xtra show called "The Basement." According to the tracklist, the first track is Candido's "Thousand Finger Man," but it sounds too modern. Can anyone who's heard/owned this track tell me if this is the original or a remix.Thanks.http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/features/basement.shtml

    Remix.

    Here's the original.

Damn, but thanks for the clarification.

  • It's not a remix but a different version that he recorded for his Salsoul Lp later on (which by the way is dope as hell).

    Title?

  • It's called "Dancin And Prancin."

You must go and find a copy for yourself immediately.

    Man, I'll do my best.

One more: Does this version of TFM exist on a 12"?

  • Somehow I forgot to mention that it's on 12" too.. but it's a tough one to find.

Everyday new things to learn...I could have sworn that was a rmx.

    Thanks for that clarification.

  • You can hear a little of the title track here.

Every track on there is nice.

I think the only other 12" off of that album is "Jingo."

This record is on our new mix, which is more or less done and ready to go.

    There is a salsoul LP, I think a salsoul 12", and a Ram's Horn 12".

Holler at the Ram's Horn 12" for 1 dolla.

LLV did a rmx for this recently......

basically it's a paradise garage classic so it has always been in demand, not just because of the recent disco is cool revival from beat heads.

    dudes call this "proto" house.

Go for the Dancin & Prancin 4 track 12" on Salsoul that Secret Chimp mentioned as the Canadian only Salsoul 12" of TFM is like $200+ last copy sold for $300.

The track was also on the Jake One A-R Music mix a few months back, Can still be heard on the SoulStrut DJ Mixes page.

    This one is also good:

Louie Vega : Thousand Fingered Man
    Vega

Thousand Fingered Man (Roots Mix) note
    Thousand Fingered Man (Beats) note

Louie Vega delivers a respectful cover version of the Candido disco classic! Starting off by staying pretty close to the original albeit with a up-to-date MAW sound, Vega's "Thousand Fingered Man" turns into a jazzy house jam, mixing it up with exotic disco rhythms.

Yeah, I like the whole album.

Don't know about it "changing hands for ridiculous rates," though--isn't that like a $20 or $25 piece?

Gemm dealers have it for around $20.

Yeah, now that I think about it, it's probably less than that. It's pretty common in New York (like you could find a dollar copy if you were willing to wait a month or three), but may be tougher elsewhere.

My personal favorite Candido piece is Beautiful on Bluenote...

  • You'll have no trouble finding the LP.

But apparently the TFM 12" does go for serious loot..

I know I have it around here somewhere, but I can't find it!

The DM Streetsounds 12" on Hardcore with Jingo (extended) b/w Dancin' and Prancin' is cheap and easy to find. Nice and loud, too. I like the longer mix of Dancin' on the Justagroove comp (Resolution Records 1995) even more....

The Canadian-only 12" is the expensive.

The US Salsoul EP is not.

Yes, we know both of these things; my original post was directed at the author of the page that SC posted a link to, who described Dancin' and Prancin' as "exchanging hands at ridiculous rates".
