Last week Betty Harris dusted off her microphone and performed at a gig we had in Melbourne, Australia. The gig was a benefit for New Orleans musicians (in Melbourne!?) and also featured Lazy Lester...and our very own soul queen, Renee Geyer. Betty was amazing. It took about 16 bars and then she was smokin... She did all the classics and even a James Carr tune!! She was saying that she hasn't performed in 30 years until recently, when she did one or two shows in the US. She was also blown away by the fact that people are into her. She had no idea that people remembered her. After being a truck driver and all...Anyway, if Betty Harris is playing anywhere near you check her out - she's still got it!!Has anyone seen her perform lately??

There were no Sansu LPs, but Harris certainly had enough material to fill one up.

Dunno why I forgot that one...
finally got my hands on the "break" 45 recently too. - heavy tune - and the feedback!
I have that song on a late-sixties SSS various-artists compilation titled Soul Gold - what I like about it is that the feedback sounds unintentional, like it was a serious problem they couldn't fix.
yea at first when i heard it, it turned me off, but then after giving it a few more listens it actually works with the tune, while being i think unintentional.
yeah, she should take a tip from that OTHER betty on the comeback trail (lavette) and do a full-scale tour or something
I like it. It's slightly rockish, but it's not gonna sound as bad in twenty years as Tina Turner's eighties hits do now.
come to think of it, you can catch me there too!
