Anything avi/divx/xvid is not the easiest using macs. It's all about PC's for that file format.
Maybe Aser knows!
Good luck!
like I said in the last post, it's really too time consuming to convert an avi file into something playable on your dvd player. But if you want to spend all day doing it, then go check that page out.
or alternatively, you can look into buying a cheap new dvd player that has divx codec built in. Hence you won't need to go through the conversion process.

oops, thanks but I'll get shot if I download that from work.
thanks for the help though
You may actually be able to go straight to the iDVD without iMovie. I'm not sure. I've only burnt a DVD of a slide show made in iPhoto. iHopeThatHelps.

get divx doctor 2 (should be available on downloads.com if not google it) drop the .avi in there, select "make stand alone movies" & "decompress audio", and hit start. this should output a .mov in the same directory as the .avi (i say should because sometimes it doesn't work with all .avi's and then i guess you're shit out of luck).
after that just drop the .mov into one of those sappy idvd menus, hit record and you're good to g o.
pirated software+work computer/network=
$49 for a 16x, 8x dual...that Cdn
I always was either the computer admin or I got hook ups with them. So this was never a problem for me. ffmpegX looks like a good solution though. Freeware.

Co-Sign...to do proper 720x480 conversion you need about 28 hours or so on a PC with 2ghz+ and 1 gig of ram....you also need about 50 gigs of space and multiple programs. Do you have Virtual PC? Run DVD Santa in VPC. It'll do it in 3 hours and it'll be the same as a dvd9 with compression artifacts. Won't be perfect, but for the time spent it'll be the best bang for the buck. I know, this isn't "mac" friendly but virtual PC will allow you to stay on the MAC.
Hey MoSS,
Whats the cheapest you've seen dual layer media for around the city?
