Although a serious player and very complete musician
when the guy "was asked" to play funky, he was the funkiest.......
miles "Live evil"......
hubbard "first light"
Farrell "moongerms"
imo the funkiest drummer in CTI
what abt the albums he did solo or that project named compost ?

I used to be pretty funky when I had the chance to play with decent drummers
definitely some funk on Joe Henderson's "Black is the Color" and "Multiple"
"Backwoods Song" on the first Gateway lp on ECM
the two Hubbard/Turrentine/Hancock "In Concert" CTI's
the Compost Life is Round lp has some beats
Compost - Life Is Round LP
his own Sorcery LP (check that super naaaaasty drum break on "Epilog", I think that's the one, it's the last track on side 2)
Johnny Hammond - Big Sur Suite from Higher Ground LP
Freddie Hubbard / Stanley Turrentine Live In Concert Vol. 1 (he gets downright funky on "Povo" along with Herbie Hancock's extra wah-ed out Fender Rhodes)
I know he did an album with benson on cti but I don't remember which one
back then, when the times (signature) were funky ....
".......I could be waaay funkier than that... "
HH: I had this crazy idea for a funky version of the '2001' theme...
ED: That's insane...
HH: I know...who wants to hear that anyway???
ED: Riiiighhhttt....

For his solo stuff, Sorcery has one good Soul-Jazz moment with a drum break intro.
