    LLoyd Price "Bad Conditions"
    Syl Johnson "Concrete Reservation"

  • The motherfucking track.

"America Has the Cutback Blues" Frontliners

    Timeless lyrics.

    "Back Street" Daz Rene

  • Thanks so far guys.
Common stuff might be goo also cuz I might need artist images also.
I need high res images so i'm trying not to pull them off the web but rather scan them. Unfortunately I don't have any records with shots of Daz Rene, Frontliners, or Cool Sounds.

    Keep em' coming.
    thanks

  • Michael James Kirkland "Hang On In There" Classic!
Of Course Headless Heroes and Outlaw

  • Wake Up Brothers - "Reflections In The Sea of Nurnen" on Tribe; a super heavy message
Also Black With NV by Black Sheep comes to mind as well.

  • Linda Tillery "Freedom Time" on Olivia is THAT political heat. The whole LP is a good listen all the way through.

  • one good one that shouldn't be too hard to find is:
Marlena Shaw - Woman of the Ghetto

    "hear our voices....."

  • One I've been listening a lot to recently is The Impressions (with Leroy Hutson) "Stop The War".

  • paging Bambouche.

Maybe some Whitfield-era Temptations. "Stop The War", "Law Of The Land", "Ball Of Confusion" and so forth. Can't go wrong with Gil Scott-Heron either.

  • The Modulations - Rough Out There

Joe Quarterman - So Much Trouble

  • Pvt. Charles Bowens - Xmas in Vietnam (Rojac) Dunno what the vocal is like coz I only play the flip. Sad I guess.

  • Joe Quarterman - So Much Trouble

..."Vietnam war, Junkies at my door, I've got sooooo much trouble in my mind...."

-Original band that recorded this with Joe refused to be on any official release because of it's political references. Good one.

This one might really fit the bill - nice underappreciated but mainstream and very funky entire LP of political commentary. I would think you could get plenty of media of & info on the Bar Kays.

The obvious choice is Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin On" which more less a political sermon on the ills of early 70s America.

Most of Funkadelic but especially America Eats Its Young is pretty politically charged.

  • This many posts and no mention of Fela Kuti? His whole catalogue is politically charged and well worth celebrating in it's entirety. Check for Zombie and Expensive Shit for the most well known joints.

  • Try these...

Mighty Hannibal -- "Hymn No. 5" (There are actually 2 versions, one about prison and the other about Vietnam)
Sergio Mendes cover of "For What It's Worth"

  • Compared to What - I like both the Les McCain and Eddie Harris version as well as the Roberta Flack version. The Common and Mya version is
