Hey Soul Strut, been a long time.  Really glad this place still has it's doors open - and my login still worked!
Have an oddball gear question.  Saw this the other day at my local record shop and I'm trying to determine A) what exactly it is and B) if it actually does what it was designed to do or was just some gimmicky gear.  I haven't talked to the shop owner yet mainly because I seldom catch him when he's there.  Does anyone have any experience with these or know what they are?   Rough google search shows they were designed for noise reduction but also range recovery (as stated clearly on the face of it).  It's my very rudimentary understanding that the range of sounds from a recording are compressed to some degree in order to fit them onto physical tape or vinyl - and that this device would then somehow undo that compression to some degree?
You can also presumably use it to cancel out some degree of tape hiss or vinyl surface noise.  I'm less intrigued by that than the range expansion, but have no idea how this actually works or if it's just bs.  Is this the same thing as what Dolby NR is?  I haven't pressed a Dolby NR button in decades - All I remember is everything sounded kind of quieter when you did.
