I'm not sure how graemlins work, wish I was there.

Just hit the little smiley dropdown over the box and take your pick.

Most of them are all references from the heyday of Soulstrut in the early 2000s, either board injokes or media references from that time period.  Some of it is older, like your Sonned emoji ("graemlin") from the Jetsons cartoon from the 60s (I think), and Elroy in the emoji was the son of the family, which was referenced by Guru in a Gangstarr song like 30 years ago (you got sonned like Elroy).

Or like the OJ Simpson "Killin it" one; it was only 8-10 years before when people were using that; now its 30 years ago.

Soulstrut is like a time capsule of the 2000s era wrapped around record collecting and beats.

  • I like the story behind the salma hayek graemlin. Did it start when Monty Stark appeared on the board to join the discussion of Stark Reality? Or some other real life musician? At any rate sometimes you'd get people just showing up to the strut when they got mentioned in threads, so the natural thing a bunch of record nerds thought to do was post salma hayek graemlins whenever somebody real turned up. A prayer to the godz that salma herself would show up on the board and start dropping knowledge on the Shook Ones Part 2 sample (this was before it got figured out), or weigh in on 24 carat black.

Strutter by the screen name of Iron Monkey, who I believe was a musician other than a DJ.
