Check out this great WDR documentary/concert footage of the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band performing their "Faces" suite from 1968.b,121b,121Damn, the KCFBBB was such a swinging, powerhouse band. A lot of people turn their nose up at big bands ("geezer jazz"), but I love the power of a big horn section, and you just can't deny the level of musicianship and communication that these guys had.b,121b,121"Faces" features a solo from each and every member of the band. In the film, during each member's solo, we also see them in a more personal setting, like Sahib Shihab walking around in Tivoli with his wife and newborn child, Art Farmer watering his plants or Ronnie Scott handling business at his nightclub. Pretty cool.b,121b,121Part 1:b,121

This session is dope but recording isn't up to usual standard, in fact it's pretty shit with little base and shrill flute, etc. I asked about rights etc and they've been bought by Japanese and Italians I think, poss Rearward. Though I 've seen nothing released, but if they can find them all and can sort out the mastering they'd be gems...b, 21b, 21CLARKE-BOLAND SEXTET COLOGNE 23.2.1965b, 21COLOGNE - JAZZ IM WDR - 23.2.1965b, 21b, 21sahib shihab: BARITONE/FLUTEb, 21fATS SADI: VIBES/CONGAb, 21FRANCY BOLAND: PIANOb, 21JIMMY WOODE: BASS/VOCALSb, 21KENNY CLARKE: DRUMSb, 21JOE HARRIS: PERCUSSIONb, 21b, 211 Ansage KE+K??hn 1.27b, 212 Set Up 2.43b, 213 Tin Tin Deo 6.08b, 214 Yah Yah Blues 9.52b, 215 Om Mani Padme Hum 9.35b, 216 Ansage K.
